An event is planned to be hosted in London proudly promoting the sale of land on illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank.
This is obscene. I've called on @MayorofLondon and @YvetteCooperMP to stop the event and for this govt to take real action on illegal settlements.
Why is it preposterous? To control profits, via prices and protect millions of Brits. We do it in energy, lets do it in food next, then banking. People first, profit second.

I wrote about one of the East India Company's two occupations of Kharg Island in my book Return of a King. The Company actually occupied Kharg twice: once from 1838-1842, on the orders of Lord Auckland (shown below) when they eventually withdrew in confusion after the disasterous Retreat from Kabul. Then the Company occupied Kharg for a second time from 1856-7. This time they pulled out again, due the outbreak of the Great Uprising of 1857, and the Highland regiments who had occupied it under Sir Jamew Outram were rushed eastwards to break the Siege of Lucknow.
On both occasions, occupying Kharg seemed like a good idea at the time, but proved a strategic dead-end. It showed that the Company could project power into the heart of the Persian Gulf at will, but it also highlighted their inability to translate naval dominance into lasting political stability in the region.
Shame our current leaders seem unable to learn the lessons of history...
Happy Christmas all! Our new video in collaboration with @TheTonyChristie is The Wexford Carol! It’s one of the oldest carols in the world, dating back to the 12th century. https://t.co/aycUctnsqu #TheGreatIrishSongbook
Beyond a joke - this hideous failure of privatisation, this company that has pumped £billions out of our economy to foreign owners while pumping billions of litres of sewage into our rivers - this company on the brink of bankruptcy, wants to reward top execs with £millions in bonuses….you have to be kidding - I suspect they are not.

THIS IS NO WAY TO TREAT OUR VETERANS PRIME MINISTER
Defence Secretary John Healey told the nuclear test veterans in opposition
“On behalf of the British Labour Party I’ve said to our veterans your campaign is our campaign…There is no good reason, there is no good moral reason, there is no good military reason for withholding the COMPENSATION other countries have had”
Former Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner told the veterans
“Myself and my Labour colleagues are calling on the Secretary of State for Defence to…liaise with the treasury to set up an appropriate financial COMPENSATION program for veterans and their descendants as America, France, Australia, China, Russia Fiji and the Isle of Man have done”
Minister for Defence Readiness Luke Pollard said
“We need to see not only the recognition for our nuclear veterans but also the COMPENSATION that they deserve”
He said the Conservative Government’s failure to give them COMPENSATION was “really dumb”
Despite expressing his "gratitude" to the veterans in opposition, after becoming PM, Keir Starmer has made no public comment on the nuclear blood test programme and more than a year since Labour came to power, there is no compensation scheme, no recognition beyond a commemorative medal which was authorised by the Tories and a "thorough" review of the archives promised to Parliament by Mr Healey has been given no budget with which to find answers.
Our nuclear test veterans - to whom this country owes a huge debt of honour and gratitude, most of whom are now in their eighties and with chronic ill health - are calling on the Prime Minister to meet with them & honour the commitment which his party to them in opposition.
In opposition you shook their hands Prime Minister. I won’t let you shake them off now.
