He is the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development and he made the remark during our City Boy Movement’s North East engagement in Maiduguri.

In all honesty, I believe the Commissioner did not mean the statement literally. It was an obvious joke made in the spirit of the lively interaction at the event and everyone present understood it as such. There was clearly no intention to insult, threaten or make any serious statement.

We were there. We heard the remark in its proper context, understood the atmosphere in which it was made, and we dismissed it because we knew it was a joke. Not every statement made at a political gathering should be deliberately amplified or interpreted in the most negative way possible.

There are enough serious issues to debate without manufacturing controversy from an obvious joke.
