I respectfully disagree. While every indigenous language deserves to be preserved and promoted, Eʋe is far from disappearing.

It is spoken by over 7 million people across Ghana, Togo, and Benin, making it one of the most widely spoken languages in the region. I personally can speak, read, and teach Eʋe, and I continue to see young people using it. Same reason why we started @SpacesWithEwes & @Learn_Ewe.

Rather than predicting its demise, we should focus on encouraging families to speak it at home, teaching it proudly, and creating more digital content for the next generation to embrace their language and culture.

Ewes raised in Volta and Ewes raised outside it are 2 distinct subcultures.

One grows up under heavy Twi influence, with a weakened self-esteem from internalising anti-Ewe stereotypes.

The other always speaks Ewe and has little interest in any other language besides English.
