Godshill Pixie horse brass trinket I picked up at a 2nd hand stall. I have a small collection of horse brasses with folkloric themes. Godhill on the Isle of Wight has a strange legend. The story goes that the villagers of Godshill decided to build a church at the bottom of a hill. However, every night, pixies would mysteriously move the building materials to the top of the hill. No matter how many times the villagers tried to build the church at the bottom, the pixies would relocate the materials by morning.

Finally, the villagers gave in to the pixies' mischief and built the church at the top of the hill, where it stands to this day.

There are many similar tales attributed to churches in the British Isles. Building materials being moved by pixie folk or demons to another location, forcing the townsfolk to build their church in an unusual location (usually atop a hill). Im not sure where the story originated, but its cool to find a bit of tat related to this tale.
