Day 5 of learning system design from a real Solana data platform.

Metrics tell you something is wrong, and logs tell you why.
Counters, gauges, histograms, and why p99 beats averages.
Alert on symptoms (stale data, open gaps), not causes (high CPU).
Backpressure isn't worth a page. Data loss is.

Day 3 of learning system design from a real Solana data platform: what happens when data goes missing?

A reconnect isn't a recovery. Every missed slot range becomes a gap record, like 1001-1399 replay_short.

Then you repair it, cheapest and closest source first:
1️⃣ the server's own spool
2️⃣ the stream provider's replay
3️⃣ the other server's spool
4️⃣ cloud backup (7 days)
5️⃣ a public archive (finalized data only)
6️⃣ paid RPC, as the last resort
A gap closes only when the transaction signatures match. "The repair ran" isn't proof. Every repaired row also records where it came from, and running a repair twice never creates duplicates.
Reliability isn't never failing. It's knowing exactly what's missing, falling back in order, and proving the fix.
