After the time that passed since the final, thinking about it a lot, I want to communicate to everyone that I am retiring from the national team...

It was a decision that hurt and hurts in a soul, but I understand that this is the moment. I swear to you that I always gave everything, not just in the last few years when we won everything but before as well and I always fought and left everything on the field for this shirt, to give you all joys and make you feel proud to be Argentines through soccer.

There's little time left and eras are ending, and that's what hurts me a lot. I love, I loved and I always will love being in the national team. I emptied myself out, I don't have anything left to give and beyond that really great guys are coming who deserve to be there.

Thank you for all the love in these 20 years. I'm going to miss hearing you from inside. Now, I'll be one more of you, supporting and backing always from the outside (in the good times and even more in the bad).

Thank you to my family for always being there, for accompanying me on this beautiful but difficult journey. Thank you to every one of the coaches, teammates and directors I crossed paths with. I take memories and unforgettable moments experienced with me.

I am going with the peace and pride of having, along with my teammates, given you moments you dreamed about. It was nuts to experience them with you. I love you.

Thank God for making me Argentine.

From a highly competitive pool of 9,198 applicants, only 69 exceptional graduates made it through to become winners of the 2026 Michael Taiwo Scholarships.
