If there was any movie I would love to see Hideaki Anno make - it would be a live action WWII film. Maybe a “soft remake” of Okamoto’s Battle of Okinawa (1971), his favorite film. Of course, people would misread it as fascist because it would have a nuanced portrayal of the IJA.
