Bo właśnie tak moi drodzy wyglądają właśnie kulisy sportu w 95% przypadków.

Ty widzisz medale, finały, podium i zdjęcia z pucharami. Nie widzisz tych telefonów wykonywanych po nocach, nie widzisz trenerów, rodziców i managerów, którzy dwoją się i troją, żeby znaleźć pieniądze na wyjazd, sprzęt, rehabilitację, lekarza czy zwykły nocleg.

Nie widzisz też, że zawodnicy kadry narodowej w wielu dyscyplinach, którzy rano siedzą na słuchawkach w call-center, stoją za ladą sklepu albo pracują na magazynie, żeby po południu zdążyć na trening i przygotowywać się do mistrzostw Europy czy świata.

Bo w wielu dyscyplinach sportowych stypendia i głośno ogłaszane nagrody wystarczają często na jedzenie, odżywki i podstawowe rachunki. O opłaceniu trenera, mieszkaniu, lekarzach (bo sport wyniszcza ciało - coś o tym wiem), odnowie biologicznej czy regularnej fizjoterapii można często tylko pomarzyć.

Sport na najwyższym poziomie to nie jest wyłącznie walka z przeciwnikiem, to przede wszystkim codzienna walka o przetrwanie w sporcie.

Dlatego następnym razem, zanim oplujesz zawodnika za porażkę, nazwiesz go nieudacznikiem albo będziesz rozliczał go z kuponu, który ci nie wszedł u bukmachera, pamiętaj o jednym: Ty widzisz kilkadziesiąt minut jego występu.

Oni często przez lata toczą walkę, której nie pokazuje żadna kamera. Walczą nie tylko o wynik, walczą o to, żeby w ogóle móc dalej uprawiać sport, który kochają, walczą, żeby móc nas dalej reprezentować.

I bardzo często jest to najtrudniejszy przeciwnik, z jakim muszą się zmierzyć.

The nurse asked me to step out of the room.
I politely said no.
She said, "It's only for a moment."
I replied:
"My husband and I don't leave our children alone with anyone, including medical providers. Anything you need to say can be said with me here."
She looked annoyed and left.
The part that stuck with me?
As soon as she walked out, my daughter thanked me for staying.
Her eyes got huge the moment the nurse asked me to leave.
Maybe I'm overprotective.

What she’s earned at this tournament:

$1,624,000.

Because the players don’t get the money til after the tournament, she was worried she wouldn’t be able to cover her costs for a hotel as she went further and further in the draw.

Polish company OSHEE had to step in and pay for the rest of her hotel fees.

It’s nothing short of heartwarming to see this happening to such a humble person who has overcome her share of struggles.

She overcame a battle with depression and stopped playing tennis entirely for a period to take care of her mental health.

She wasn’t sure if she’d ever come back to this sport.

Absolutely unreal story. 🥹
