This is insane. Of course the brawling leprechaun & "Fighting Irish" are slurs. But they're slurs the 1920s-era Irish Catholics of Notre Dame embraced as a gesture of defiance. https://t.co/IWazC4xAUz
Kevin Stepherson blew his chance at Notre Dame. He flashed tantalizing talent during his two seasons in South Bend, but Brian Kelly's patience ran out and rightly so. Of the four players dismissed from the team tonight, Stepherson easily is the loss that hurts the most.
I helped coach 11U football this year. The lesson on that final play, and one of the first things we taught, is keep your head up when you try to make a tackle. You’ve got to see what you’re trying to hit.
Julian was pretty much considered Notre Dame's best DB coming out camp. I didn't think Troy would start a game all year. He started four. https://t.co/2d6iMxn50r
Significant loss for Notre Dame with Chicago Tribune reporting offensive line coach Harry Hiestand is leaving to accept the same position with the NFL's Chicago Bears. Hiestand was the second-longest tenured member of Notre Dame's coaching staff. He joined Brian Kelly in 2012.
By my research, the 2017 Alabama Crimson Tide became the third college football team to win the national championship after losing to their arch rival, joining the 1989 Miami Hurricanes and 1996 Florida Gators.
Instead of a prediction, why not put down some odds? I'd give Alabama about a two-in-three chance of beating Georgia tonight. By the way, hat tip to Notre Dame for going toe to toe with Bulldogs in September.
Last night of college football. My Notre Dame awards:
MVP: Quenton Nelson
Underappreciated: Jerry Tillery
Disappointment: Kevin Stepherson
Surprise: Te'von Coney/Troy Pride Jr.
Best play: duh, Miles Boykin's Citrus Bowl-winning catch
Worst play: pick one from the loss in Miami
This news can’t be great for many Notre Dame defenders or incoming recruits. This next hire has to work out. The Irish defense needs stability. If the unit takes a step back in 2018 after the fast success under Elko, Kelly will face scrutiny.
After the announcement of D-coordinator Mike Elko's departure, Notre Dame doesn't necessarily have to go in a different direction. Clark Lea, ND's linebackers coach, could be a candidate. He and Elko worked together at Bowling Green and Wake Forest. Lea knows the scheme well..
The presence of Elko seemed like one of Kelly's top building blocks heading into 2018. Then, seemingly out of the blue, came today's reports of Elko being Texas A&M's new D-coordinator. If true, it is yet another move that puts pressure on Kelly.
Mike Elko's first -- and apparently only -- season as Notre Dame's defensive coordinator worked very well. He seemed like a perfect fit with coach Brian Kelly and took a unit that was a work in progress and made it solid. Irish finished 46th out of 130 teams in overall defense.
Now, that is a "wow" move. RT @BruceFeldmanCFB: SOURCE: #NotreDame’s Mike Elko is expected to become the new defensive coordinator at #TAMU.. the move was 1st reported by TexAgs.
Here's my full photo sequence from Boykin's ridiculous one-handed catch and crazy run into the end zone to win the game yesterday. There's 56 photos total and an official that nearly ruins every shot.
