🫡 I can understand why 2K kept the top of this class THIS close.

💪 AJ didn’t just arrive with hype. He immediately looked like somebody physically ready for NBA basketball.

🧰 Size. Athleticism. Shot creation. Rim pressure. Defensive tools.

🎵 2. DARRYN PETERSON — 79 OVR
🔘 Kansas: 20.2 PPG | 4.2 RPG
🔘 Salt Lake City SL: 26.5 PPG
🔘 Vegas: 20.7 PPG

🧳 Peterson might have one of the deepest offensive bags in the entire class.

👌 Pull-ups… stepbacks… tough finishes… three-level scoring.

🗣️ But here’s what I’d rather see people discussing:

🎯 THE 50 / 40 / 90 CLUB 💦

📈 If you’re hitting 40% on 100 shots with ZERO badges, fully badging that same player should absolutely create a noticeable jump.

🧐 But I think 2K has also completely warped our perception of what “good shooting” even looks like.

🤩 In the NBA, 50/40/90 is considered ELITE.

🔘 50% from the field.
🔘 40% from 3.
🔘 90% from the line.

🌬️ That’s historically rare air.

🗣️ Meanwhile, in the 2K community, somebody can shoot 50% from the perimeter & casuals will say:

“Bro can’t shoot.” 🥴

🎮 Obviously, 2K is a video game & NOT real life.

🔘 There is a skill gap.
🔘 Great timing is rewarded.
🔘 Badges matter.
🔘 Ratings matter.

☝️But there’s another side to this…

👌 The closer shooting gets to automatic, the fewer natural rebound battles the game creates.

⛹️‍♂️ Missed shots create basketball.

🔘 Box-outs
🔘 Offensive rebounds
🔘 Putbacks
🔘 Second-chance possessions
🔘 Leak-outs
🔘 Transition decisions
🔘 Fast break slam dunks

⚠️ If you’re shooting 70–80%+, entire parts of basketball start becoming less important.

💭 So maybe the real question isn’t:

“How high should badges make your percentage?”

🤔 Maybe it’s:

❓ What shooting percentage represents the PERFECT balance between rewarding skill & still allowing @NBA2K to feel like basketball?

🛡️ If someone shoots 40% with no badges, what should that SAME shooter realistically hit once fully badged?

❓ 50%? 55%? 60%? 65%? 70%+?

🫯 I’m interested in seeing where the community draws the line.

🔫 I’m currently shooting 60%+ from deep & people still refuse to pass me the ball, even when I’m wide open in the corner 🤷‍♂️

😔 Change shooting @Beluba, & I wonder if I’ll ever get the ball.

Hopefully this is a little more clear. If you take 100 shots and average 40% make percentage with zero badges. What would you expect your shot % to climb to if you took those same exact 100 shots but were fully badged out.

A steal looks better on the stat sheet.

But keeping the ball in front might be the better defensive possession.

That’s why I’ve always coached CONTAINMENT over reaching.

Especially late in the shot clock.

When the ball handler drives:

🦶 Move your feet.
🧱 Maintain your angle.
👀 Keep your chest in front.
🙌 Once contact comes, hands go UP & toward your ears.

This defensive stance is called:

“MICKEY MOUSE” 🐭

Why?

Because I want the referee to CLEARLY see that we’re defending with our feet instead of swiping down at the basketball.

Reaching is high variance.

You might get the steal…

…but if you miss, you can lose your defensive angle, open a driving lane, compromise the help defense, or put somebody at the FT line.

Containment makes the offense KEEP solving problems.

No bailout.

No easy angle.

No unnecessary gamble.

Just disciplined defense until the possession is finished.

One of the biggest things I try to teach young players:

🚨 GREAT DEFENSE ISN’T ALWAYS ABOUT TAKING THE BALL.

Sometimes it’s about taking away OPTIONS.

The defender who forces a tough pull-up with 2 seconds left may have created just as much value as the defender who got the steal.

Maybe more over the course of an entire game.

❓ COACHES & HOOPERS:

Late in the shot clock, what are you teaching?

🐭 CONTAIN — make them finish over you

or

🎰 GAMBLE — hunt the steal before they can get a shot up
