Heartbroken/outraged at news of the largest number of protesters murdered by Myanmar security forces in a single day. Junta leaders don't belong in power, they belong behind bars. Their supply of cash & weapons must be cut now. I appeal to UN member states to heed my call to act.
1/2 Martial law was declared in Hlaing Tharyar & Shwepyitha, two industrial townships in Yangon, on Sunday night. An intense crackdown on anti-regime protesters in Hlaing Tharyar has killed at least 14 people. The death toll is expected to rise as more details emerge.

Today I told the UN HR Council the Myanmar junta knows all about weapons of war but are at a loss how to deal with weapons of peaceful resistance wielded by a determined people defending their nation & their children's future. They need & deserve the UN to stand with & for them.
Myanmar is being "controlled by a murderous, illegal regime", according to a UN investigator. Over 70 people have been murdered & over 2000 have been arrested by the military junta since the Feb 1 coup.

HAPPENING NOW: In a live stream sent to me, this is the situation now in Sanchaung township #Yangon where #Myanmar security forces had blocked off access in/out of the neighbourhood for hours now. Myanmar already under a nightly curfew right now #WhatsHappeningInMyanmar
I've received credible reports of security forces sealing off four streets in Sanchaung, Yangon. 200 peaceful protesters are apparently trapped. They must be released immediately and the escalation of terror tactics against those exercising their right to protest must end now!
The United Nations in #Myanmar is calling for an immediate de-escalation of the situation in Sanchaung, Yangon, and to allow protestors prevented from returning home by security forces to so do safely.
