Happy Monday! Let’s start the week off with a simple yet powerful practice… after all, we are busy and sometimes less is more. Have you ever heard of the third eye? Of course you have. But do you really grasp what is it? Do you believe it exists? Have you ever experienced “seeing” thru it? Does subtle vision, or other subtle sensorial experiences inform your art?
I could talk for hours about this, but instead a let’s cut to the chase and make it all less theoretical and more plain. There are different ways to access the type of perception commonly considered to be of the third eye. The simplest and easiest I’ve found is based on movement and the flow of energy.
Firstly, realize that you do not need to “open” your third eye, it does not close. Instead you may access this vision by simply “closing” your physical eyes. By closing though, what we really mean is to make them absolutely still. Have you ever tried to do this for any extended period of time? Easier said than done. Why? Because our eyes move as our mind thinks. Stopping your eyes is as difficult as stopping your mind.
But there are ways. Feeling them sleepy, or heavy and stonelike, or holding them to a yogic drishti are all ways of stopping their movement.
So what then? When we stop our physical eyes from moving for an extended period of time, say 3-5 minutes or even faster, the aspect of conscious that yearns to see will find the subtle movement of the third eye chakra an easier path to follow than the non-moving optic nerve and eyes. This is because energy and motion are interlinked and movement begets energy.
I’ve developed the ability to “see” via this subtle anatomy, and found several ways to access it - of which this method is only one but may be the simplest. Instead of getting into what this vision is like in this short post, it’s probably best just to see for yourself! I’d love to hear if you have any other ways you’ve found success in developing any extra sensory capabilities?

yours are the
almandine eyes
staring, stark
into mine.
•
seeking what
lies beneath
the camel’s
gold prodding
restless thru
desert nights,
•
stirring inken
indiscretions
as loose-
leaf tea tells of
tolls to come.
•
this chamber quops,
as each passing
word levies a glimpse
of my soul untold.
•
of my heart
beat in two.
