@CarnoustieCad I saw that 7 live! Pin high right in 2, Sergio found the greenside rough impossible. It was brutal, fertilised to create alien-to-Scotland conditions!
@CarnoustieCad We're a Jack Tamson's bairns has more destructive origins than constructive. I kent his faither doesn't mean he has to be his faither. He also may have been of limited imagination and ability as the boy saying it, handicapped by envy and self-loathing.
@CarnoustieCad They are easy to read on the Old. No excuse for missing inside 10 feet.
They don't drop in the front door. Must go in with conviction.
On 17 to Open Sunday pin i.e. putting towards 18 tee, always way more R2L than it looks and slowest putt on the course.
@Daniel_Rapaport We witnessed the greatest comeback in golf, the most dramatic possible manner going all the way to the wire with multiple individual outcome possibilities.
Compulsive, fantastic viewing for two days. Congratulations to everyone involved including the crowd.
@TournGolfTravel@MrAndrewCotter@SkySportsGolf@mcginleygolf He's also very observant and informative and he does it without a Me Me Me overactive ego that pollutes some sports commentaries on radio and TV. A breath of fresh air on Sky Sports this weekend ππ»
@ianfra5er@CarnoustieCad Reviewing old Old Course pics, the R & A saw very little gorse (a weed) and encouraged everyone to minimise it. It was replaced with Marram grass at Montrose and Royal Abz which definitely speeded up play and made the game easier. Blagownie was a brutal slog!
@ianfra5er@CarnoustieCad The genius who was Mark Parsinen RIP deliberately made the fairways wide at Castle Stuart and Kingsbarns, his two in Scotland. He didn't want golfers losing balls and having a miserable experience! "They face enough stress at work" was his philosophy.
@ianfra5er@CarnoustieCad One of the reasons for Muirfield being such a tough test is that the holes go in all directions so unlike the traditional links that go downwind out and into in (or vice versa), you have to contend with the wind in many different ways.
@CarnoustieCad Fraserburgh. Oldest golf course in the world which retains its original name, 1777.
So much fun and a good test. Superb greens too, as from there up the "Moray Firth stretch" to Nairn always are.
@CarnoustieCad The AIG Women's Open data is a good comparison and strongly suggests Lytham is the tougher course. The vast majority of elite golfers - male and female, pro and amateur - know this.
@CarnoustieCad 1999 is an exception. The R & A got John Philp to feed the rough in a completely unnatural (for Scotland) way, making it unfair and random and inevitably leading to telephone numbers. Good premium to keep out of it though!
@ukgolfguy The old guard - which included Ryder Cup player Harry Bannerman and my late uncle John Bell - at the oldest golf course in the world that retains its original name, Fraserburgh GC, have a nip or two of good whisky before they play. The Macallan usually.
