I've been following this in the Netherlands for quite a while, and it's rare to see positive stories in the news about AI actually working well. If that doesn't change, I think it will take a long time before people start seeing and feeling the benefits of AI in their everyday lives.

AI is entering healthcare faster than AI education is entering healthcare curricula.

WHO/Europe reports that only one in five countries provides AI education to healthcare professionals before they qualify.

Learning to use AI responsibly requires more than a separate lecture on prompting. It should be integrated into clinical reasoning, documentation, ethics, data protection and patient safety.

Future professionals need to learn when AI can support their work, how to challenge its output and when not to use it.

An AI scribe can reduce writing time and still fail to reduce total workload when reviewing its output becomes an additional task.

The Netherlands is developing a national validation framework for generative AI in healthcare. Early findings show that the expected time savings are not always realised because reviewing AI output also takes time.

Accuracy and patient safety matter. I hope the framework also examines which documentation requirements and controls can disappear when the technology is introduced.

Otherwise, we may validate the tool without reducing the administrative system around it.

Dutch healthcare policy expects digital care to ease workforce pressure.

Yet the 2025 Dutch Digital Healthcare Monitor found that surveyed professionals generally felt it had not reduced their workload.

My interpretation is that we are introducing new technology without redesigning the work around it.

When a digital process is added while the old one remains, it may improve access, information or even quality—but it does not free up professional time.

Returning that time requires a more fundamental approach: make healthcare administration AI-first.

Technology should produce and structure routine administrative information. Healthcare professionals remain the gatekeepers, responsible for clinical meaning and patient safety.

Success is measured by which tasks disappear and how much professional time returns to patient care—not by the number of digital tools introduced.

Not a fan of Elon Musk, but this was just a glimpse. On the @grok app in expert mode, you get the right answer right away—the instant version of ChatGPT gave the same answer. I think the real issue is that even AI can’t believe, at first glance, that the president would publish something like this.
