@annalisaboulder I feel like now I have an incredible appreciation for the way art can affect change and stand as a platform of activism in a culture. Some people hate politics but love art: artists have found a way to reach the people that avoid the real issues. #engl3246
@granston_jenny @KlownOfMischief I like this last claim. Kamala originally thinks that female superheros are supposed to look just like the original Ms. Marvel: blonde, white, tall. But the fact that she embraces herself as a platform for goodness means she is fighting that stereotype. #engl3246
@KlownOfMischief She has certainly made it clear that every person is as capable of doing good as anyone. And she IS the superhero here, after all. She does not address the object of feminism directly, but there is no doubt that the fact that Kamala is a woman is not to be questioned. #engl3246
There are a great deal of superhero comics used as propoganda against Nazi Germany and the Japanese in WWII. It’s interesting that this example of political activism is aimed inward within our own country. Thoughts? #engl3246
@_chrishaynes#Claim: Kamala Kahn is here to save the world from evil. If she is against someone like Donald Trump, the insinuation that his actions are evil is very clear. #engl3246
@_chrishaynes#Claim: When the followers of a comic like Ms. Marvel are drawn in by the ideology of goodness and togetherness, it is then easy for the symbol of this comic to be used as a platform against those cultural entities that are conflictual to this. #engl3246
@_chrishaynes#synths The fact that this character who embodies all of these qualities of inclusivity is the one showing her disdain for the current exclusivity of our political authorities is an incredibly poignant message to the people who have embraced this comic’s themes. #engl3246
@_chrishaynes#synths The themes illustrated in this comic are of inclusivity, goodness, acceptance, and freedom of self. Donald Trump is infamous for excluding huge groups of the population, including minorities, the poor, and women. #engl3246
@_chrishaynes#Claim The Ms. Marvel fandom takes the themes of heroism and inclusivity illustrated in the comic and embraces them in their own lives. Everyone accepts that they can be good and do good despite prejudice, hardship, and the evil in the world. #engl3246
@_chrishaynes#synths The fact that any and all people can see themselves as a hero despite their differences is a way of showing that humanity is capable of so much, and not one certain type of person can succeed in making the world a better place. #engl3246
@_chrishaynes#synths This is not every person saying, “I am Ms. Marvel,” it’s all of them saying, “WE are ALL Ms. Marvel.” This makes it clear that the community is unified and inclusive. #engl3246
@_chrishaynes If saving one person is equivalent to saving the whole world, Kamala’s choice to save Zoe shows that to her, every life is worth saving. This is inclusive and tolerant and gracious, and really reveals Kamala’s true goodness of character. #engl3246
@_chrishaynes#Claim: Through this inclusion of the Muslim heritage that Kamala is often ashamed of, she is embracing her people while also embracing the choice to save Zoe, and, in turn, save the whole world. #engl3246
@_chrishaynes#synths Kamala is remembering this at the very moment she is in the midst of making a decision, and deciding whether or not to save Zoe. She is unsure of herself, and recalls this portion of her heritage. #engl3246
