It could be a president, an actor, a famous figure, or simply the face of our mother, father, or any loved one we have a photo of. I started with two… and, naively believing in “free speech,” I tagged you a few times—clearly a grave mistake. Yes, I was hoping for a swift response, and I thought tagging him would prompt exactly that. For years no one has convinced me that CCTV systems are reaching their full potential.

What do CCTV systems truly protect? Primarily us, the people, or private property, capital, or state security?

If a villain attacked you while you strolled down a quiet street, far from any camera’s view, would you wish you were that bottle of Coca-Cola, safely monitored on its shop shelf? Or perhaps a bench at Heathrow, or a car in a secure car park?

Now, picture a city where everyone wears a small and discreet device, easily attachable to clothing, a cap, or a tiara, equipped with 2-4 tiny (phone-like) cameras. These tiny cameras record everything around them, streaming the footage directly to iCloud, securely stored for a month. If you were a criminal, would you dare carry out your misdeeds in such a place?

To sidestep the usual objections of “I’m fine with city cameras, but don’t film me!”, let’s assume that in this city, only the 👮‍♂️ police can access the footage. They can “declassify” it only if you’re a victim of a crime (or an attempt) or an unwitting witness to one. This way, there’s no room for misuse, and personal CCTV would function much like the public systems we’re already accustomed to.

Imagine you’re a parent (if you aren’t already), sending your child ❤️ off to school alone. Your child, like their friends, wears a personal CCTV device uploading to iCloud. Would that bring you a bit of peace of mind?

The production of these devices must be affordable and accessible (think the price of a budget phone), so you could lend a hand in that direction too. Most importantly, answer the question Grok has already addressed for me: Would more criminals be caught if this system were in place? Would crime rates decrease over time? Would lives be saved? What’s the level of prevention?
