NEW: Chicago Teachers Union leadership is trying to change Illinois election law on the final day of legislative session.

This provision popped up overnight in the elections omnibus bill.

If passed it would *retroactively* change rules around who was allowed to circulate petitions for Chicago school board candidates.

This attempt suggests CTU has significant problems with the signatures they gathered on behalf of union leadership’s preferred candidates. (Signatures paid for with member dues btw.) Those candidates officially filed last week.

In short: CTU leadership helped write the rules for Chicago’s elected school board. It appears they ignored those rules when collecting signatures for candidates. And now they are attempting to change the rules after the fact.
