@_birdsofwar You’re comparing other models that are in investment mode competing against an incumbent pro model.
Collegiate athletics are not a traditional pro model - some institutions are behaving differently than others and many are dragging their feet. There is a slim window of oppty
Genie is out of the bottle. If they attempt to suppress wages athletes will find alternatives. You will open up for NFL to draft the premier high school talent and reduce eligibility restrictions to zero. You could have LIV style league pop up that will sign the best talent, etc
Cantwell just acknowledged part of the reasoning behind this bill is to get rid of a “pay for play” system, so trying to move backwards.
Continuing to fight “pay for play” is one of college athletics’ biggest problems right now.
Better to just admit the truth & move forward.
@_birdsofwar Which one are you talking about? LIV itself failed against the incumbent pro league. It has not been attempted competitively against the collegiate sports model
@_birdsofwar It wouldn’t be most, but there are certainly athletes that just by their $ value alone in college prove to be worth poaching post HS, post freshman and sophomore year.
It would be the exception - I’m more bullish on a LIV style alternative to college football - that will happen
@WinterSportsLaw Gee is an extreme example and his actions speak louder than his words. He hen he was at Vanderbilt, he abolished the leadership structure in athletics and folded the athletic department under his academic department. A Vice Chancellor ran athletics after that
@_birdsofwar But that’s exactly my point - it’s an NFL rule. And I’d love to know your reasoning of why they would have ‘no interest’ in changing it. Besides the current player union not wanting an influx of potential supply
Wild college baseball facts as of Tuesday morning: 1. None of last year's College World Series participants made a Super Regional this season. 2. Ten of the 22 remaining teams are from the SEC; if Auburn, Florida, Oklahoma and Texas A&M win tonight, SEC would have a presence in all 8 supers.
Heavy support from Big 12, ACC, American, and Pac-12 schools.
Minimal support from SEC and Big Ten schools.
Going to be interesting to see how that affects the bill’s chances of passing.
