#EPWConversations: Today, @vijayprashad is going to discuss his article, "A Socialist Cry for Civilisational Change: COVID-19 and the Failure of Neo-liberalism" from
@epw_in's handle. We invite you to join the conversation and ask questions.
Head over to @epw_in at 5pm today for a conversation with @vijayprashad on the 'Socialist Cry for Civilisational Change'
You can read the article here: https://t.co/bdJUV8sg0y and ask him questions. :D
Coming soon to @epw_in: A great article about racism and the history of epidemics in colonial India. Here's a snippet:
"The tropics was the diseased other. Within the colonial context, diseases came to be viewed as an entity in itself."
Also coming to @epw_in, is an article by @vijayprashad, the most poetic academic on earth, on #COVID19 and the failure of #neoliberalism.
Snippet: "Flatten the curve" is not merely a public health warning; it is a civilizational cry for help.
#EPWConversations: @durbakatha and @mrinalsatish in their article in the EPW, show how evidencing of rape in India is pegged on the colonial assumption that women make false allegations of rape, and perpetuates stereotypes about women and their bodies. https://t.co/g8xfhZ4sDV ⬇️

How do #caste and #gender work together to keep material resources concentrated in the hands of upper-caste men? See our interactive on #BrahmanicalPatriarchy to find out. https://t.co/ypHR4nYU5T
#BrahmanicalPatriarchy framework is useful to understand how caste operates - historically and even today. My colleague, @ts_cattiot worked closely with Uma and put together a toolkit -- building blocks of Brahmanical patriarchy. Take a look: https://t.co/YkGwaxJMjE
#BrahmanicalPatriarchy framework was conceptualised by noted scholar Uma Chakravarti to describe the relationship between caste and gender in early India -- and to analyse the ways sexual control over women ensures patrilineal succession and caste purity.
A little over a year ago, Twitter exploded because @jack was photographed holding a poster that said #SmashBrahmanicalPatriarchy. RW trolls & keyboard warriors flew off their handles.

#EPWConversations: Today, @nehaa_sinha will be talking about on conservation and wildlife policy in India. We invite you to join the conversation and ask questions.
@nehaa_sinha 867 bird species were assessed. Out of ones for which data and current/ long-term trends could be gleaned, 52% birds have shown clear decline.
These include birds of prey (such as vultures), coastal migrants like Golden Plover (in pic), and habitat specialists.

@nehaa_sinha The new state of India's birds (SOIB) report is the first attempt to map the health of India's birds- their abundance and range. The report finds that while rare birds are declining, so are once common birds, such as the Yellow-crowned woodpecker (in photo)
#EPWConversations
We will be with @nehaa_sinha to talk about wildlife conservation and policy. We will discuss the State of India's bird reports, conflict and conservation, and Cheetah rewilding. Have questions? Tweet to us!
