“They didn’t teach me anything!”
Want to evaluate the quality of your child’s preschool? You could hardly ask for a better endorsement than this one, captured at the end of a three-year-old’s first day of school.
In fact, if you visit a classroom and find a preschool teacher lecturing - or children hunched over desks, all engaged in the same teacher-directed activity - run for the hills.
That’s because young children don’t learn in the same way older children do.
They learn through play.
They learn through interaction.
They learn through discovery and exploration; through trial and error.
The best early childhood teachers are rarely the center of attention in their classrooms.
They aren’t there to lecture and drill, but to observe, plan, guide, question, and support the needs of each individual child.
Never confuse a lack of stereotypical “teaching” in these classrooms for a lack of LEARNING. Or rigor.
Indeed, these child guided classrooms are learning laboratories second only to the home in terms of their life-changing potential.
If your child doesn’t come home covered in paint once in a while, or with grass stains on their pants, you’ve probably chosen the wrong program.
Instead look for an endorsement like our hero’s:
They didn’t teach me anything, but I had fun. And maybe tomorrow there will be more time to talk about possums.

If Trump wins, 40 million people could lose their health care, and insurance companies would get to deny coverage to people with pre-existing conditions.
If Biden wins, that…won’t happen.
People love to make everything super complex, but a lot of what makes for a meaningful life is actually quite simple.
Do the right things.
Surround yourself with the right people.
Don’t worry about being perfect, just be good enough over and over again.
Young children can be very literal in their thinking.
It’s not a shortcoming. There’s just a lot to learn about the world - and certain concepts - including figures of speech - take a little time to master.
Often literal understandings are the only ones they have.
Sometimes to humorous effect.
Check out this sweet little one as she “counts backward.”

Youth participation across baseball (-20%) and tackle football (-13%) is down a lot over the several years, while sports like tennis (+51%), Golf (+32%), and soccer (+4%) have seen substantial growth.
Also, boys (40%) are still more likely to play sports than girls (35%) — but the two genders are headed in opposite directions.
Interesting numbers.

Kurt Vonnegut's 8 rules for writing:
1. Use the time of a total stranger in such a way that he or she will not feel the time was wasted.
2. Give the reader at least one character he or she can root for.
3. Every character should want something, even if it is only a glass of water.
4. Every sentence must do one of two things—reveal character or advance the action.
5. Start as close to the end as possible.
6. Be a sadist. No matter how sweet and innocent your leading characters, make awful things happen to them-in order that the reader may see what they are made of.
7. Write to please just one person. If you open a window and make love to the world, so to speak, your story will get pneumonia.
8. Give your readers as much information as possible as soon as possible. To hell with suspense. Readers should have such complete understanding of what is going on, where and why, that they could finish the story themselves, should cockroaches eat the last few pages.
Jaw-dropped at some of the Gen Z turnout rates from last night's election compared to 2021.

—Penn State: 300% HIGHER
—College of William & Mary: 128% HIGHER
Gen Z turned out & made Republicans find out. We will do it again in 2024. Thank a Gen Z.
Seriously? People are concerned about why Joe Biden is running, but they're okay with twice impeached, four times indicted, classified material mishandling, civilly liable for sexual assault (& essentially just as old) Donald Trump running?
Please think for yourself.
