5-Day Work Week: A Standard for Productivity, Growth & Efficiency and a norm for ethical workplace.
Across sectors globally, the 5-day work week boosts productivity, enhances efficiency, reduces work-related stress, and fosters growth.
In India -
✅ Central Govt. – 5 days week, Limited service alternatives on weekends
✅ State Govts.– 5 days week, Limited service alternatives on weekends
✅ RBI – 5 days week, Very few service alternatives on weekends
✅ LIC – 5 days week, Some service alternatives on weekends
✅ Courts – 5 days week, No alternatives on weekends
✅ Stock Exchange– 5 days week, Trading closed on weekends
✅ Most MNCs and private companies– 5 days week, limited work on weekends, barring some exceptions.
❌ Indian Banking Sector– 𝟱 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗲s is still pending despite providing 𝟮𝟰𝘅𝟳 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 & digital 𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹𝘀.
An agreement between the management of all Banks represented by IBA (Indian Banks Association) and employees unions has already been signed, and the IBA has recommended it to the government. Yet, the implementation remains pending.
Banking is a demanding & high-pressure service industry with long hours of work and zero tolerance for human errors. If any sector deserves a 5-day work week on priority, it’s banking.
Bank employees and their families fervently hope that this much-needed reform will be declared soon.
We urge the government @FinMinIndia, @PMOIndia, @DFS_India to prioritize this decision for the well-being of bank employees and to further enhance the banking sector’s efficiency.
