RIP. Ohio K9 Kaya exited the patrol vehicle to stretch his legs in an area west of the Streetsboro Police Department. While chasing a ball, K9 Kaya redirected, and crossed onto SR 303 where a vehicle passing by hit him.
From the department’s Facebook page “K9 Kaya was on SPD/ city property, and well off of the roadway in the field to the west of the PD. It is a place Officer Hall and K9 Kaya played ball, where Kaya got to stretch his legs and take bathroom breaks. It is an area Kaya had played 1000’s of times over the last 8+ years we have had him. We will likely never know why Kaya redirected towards SR 303, he had never done it before.”
K9 Kaya had served with the Streetsboro Police Department for almost nine years. He died three days before his ninth birthday.
