WHY WE CAN'T GO: a 3-part series by @Spacing's senior editor @JohnLorinc on the historical problems with #Toronto's public washrooms.
"Part 1: Victorian loos, restaurants and moral panic"

@JohnLorinc begins a 3-part series w/ a brief history of Toronto's loos & its moralistic, paternalistic approach to provision of a critical human right. "The regulation of public space has never just been a matter of resources, or the lack thereof." https://t.co/gjue4LQ7Ze
@cityoftoronto We've mapped all of the Toronto water fountains that we are aware of. If you locate a water fountain or city park washroom that is not operational, we recommend contacting @311Toronto https://t.co/aBat0tX1iv

We continue seeing reports of park washrooms closed throughout the city and we're about to enter the month of June. Where have you found locked/closed washrooms?
@shawnmicallef@TorontoPFR & @bradrossTO contend that closed park washrooms are because the structures are not winterized. We would like proof to corroborate this claim, demonstrating which park washrooms are winterized, and which are not.
Big thanks to @CivicTechTO for providing us with the time & (digital) space to talk about, and solicit feedback on our mapping initiative to connect Torontonians with public (and not-so public) washrooms. https://t.co/AEBN8heT3Z
Due to Covid-19 related staffing shortages, 44 branches will be temporarily closed as of today. We've updated our map at https://t.co/AEBN8heT3Z to reflect these changes. Sadly, that's 44 fewer public (mostly wheelchair accessible) washrooms available to Torontonians.
🧵 To ensure that we can continue to offer consistent and equitable library services across the city, we’re temporarily closing 44 branches starting Monday, January 10. This is due to Covid-19 related staffing shortages… [1/8]
COVID restrictions on indoor gatherings have shown just how important outdoor public washrooms can be.
Join our hacknight tomorrow (Jan. 11) to meet the team behind @GottaGoToronto. They're using #civictech to make it easier to find a local loo. 🚽
