Windhoek has lost one of its most quietly iconic figures.
For those of us who walked the streets of our CBD, you knew him, the gentleman who was always seated on his chair at the corner, calm and steady, morning after morning. A familiar face. A constant presence. Almost like a silent guardian watching over our capital city.
I first noticed him back in late 2007, and he never stopped showing up. He became part of the face of Windhoek in his own right, not through noise or fanfare, but simply by being there, faithfully, every single day.
When I was working at Informante Newspaper, we were all so curious about what drew him to the CBD each morning that we went and interviewed him. His story was about His daughter that perished in a car accident if I remember well. He had his reasons, his rhythm, his relationship with this city that most of us never fully understood, but eventually, we stopped questioning it and simply accepted him as part of our city’s identity.
To his family and loved ones and Friends, may you find comfort in knowing that he touched more lives than he probably ever realised.
The streets he graced will not be the same without him.
Windhoek City owes this man an honour. He earned it one morning at a time. 🙏🏽
