Heavy rains and historic flooding have hit New Mexico families hard. Homes damaged, roads washed out, power lines downed and countless lives disrupted. Many people are still cleaning up, but nobody should have to recover alone.
My office has put together a page with the help and resources available to you, from emergency assistance to cleanup and rebuilding support:

I want New Mexicans to know what President Trump’s reckless policy change on methane emissions means for them. Nothing changes for our state’s rules. Our methane standards are some of the strongest in the nation, and they stay in place. Operators here still have to inspect for leaks, limit venting and flaring, and capture 98 percent of their natural gas by the end of this year. We’re also moving forward with our own program to find and fix the largest leaks.
These rules work. Since 2020, New Mexico’s oil and gas production has more than doubled. On our side of the Permian Basin, methane intensity is less than half of what it is in Texas. Our rules have kept an additional $125 million worth of natural gas from being wasted. That’s revenue that helps fund universal child care and other programs New Mexico families count on.
What does change is the standard everywhere else. Pollution doesn’t stop at the state line. When the federal standard drops, families in southeastern New Mexico are the ones breathing what drifts across the border from operators held to weaker rules.
So we’ll keep doing what has worked. We’ll make New Mexico’s case during the federal comment period, work with other states to share what we’ve learned, and keep showing that responsible production and clean air can go hand in hand
Dolores Huerta fought for working people everywhere, but she was a New Mexican first. Born in Dawson, she never stopped coming home to New Mexico, and she never stopped pushing us to do more for the people who care for our children and keep this state running.
Dolores was a force of nature. She gave farm workers a voice, and she gave all of us ‘Sí, se puede.’ I was lucky to call her a friend, and I’ll never forget the day she came to our office to accept the state’s thanks for her extraordinary service. In 2023, I was proud to sign the law making April 10 Dolores Huerta Day in New Mexico, so every generation here will know her name.
“Well into her nineties, she spoke hard truths regardless of the personal costs. She showed up for people who were at risk, taken advantage of, underserved and unheard until the day she died.
My heart is with her family and the Dolores Huerta Foundation. Rest in power, Dolores.
Our name dates back centuries, but our history runs even deeper. From Indigenous communities who have called this land home since time immemorial to the cultures and traditions that make our state unlike anywhere else, New Mexico has a story all its own.
Proud of our history. Proud of our people. Proud to be New Mexico.
¡Viva Nuevo México! 🌶️
New Mexico is creating jobs and growing our economy.
We added 11,200 jobs over the past year, ranking 7th in the nation for job growth. That's more than 4x the national growth rate.
From construction and manufacturing to health care, we're seeing growth across industries and expanding opportunities for New Mexicans.
Changing New Mexico’s name won’t lower your electricity bill, put food on the table or make health care more affordable. New Mexicans deserve solutions, not distractions.
Our history, culture and people make this place unlike anywhere else—and we’re proud to keep building a future where New Mexico families can thrive. ¡Viva Nuevo México!
This tired New America bit again? 🙄 You have to ask — what policy failure is Trump trying to distract Americans from this time?
Let me repeat: New Mexico was New Mexico long before the United States existed and we’ll be New Mexico forevermore. And while we’re talking about our great state, Americans should also know we’ve been busy delivering universal, no cost child care. We’re also the only state that fully replaced health care subsidies that were gutted by Trump and congressional Republicans.
Independent experts say our elections are among the most secure in the nation. It’s just that Trump can’t seem to accept that voters are rewarding Democrats for policies that make life easier for working families.
¡Viva Nuevo Mexico! 🌶️
Democracy depends on productive disagreement. We don’t have to agree on everything to work together.
Kindness, joy and optimism are how we build relationships, find common ground and deliver for the people we serve. Progress starts by remembering there’s more that connects us than divides us.

Nearly a year in, universal child care is changing what's possible for New Mexico parents.
New research shows that since we made child care free and universal for every New Mexican, low-income mothers have seen:
-18% increase in employment
-23% increase in full-time work
-15% more hours worked each week
For other families, it's opened different doors, like going back to school or spending more time at home.
We're proud that parents now have the freedom to chase new opportunities, knowing their kids are safe, learning, and well cared for.
Research conducted by Arizona State University economist Chris Herbst.
New Mexico is home to 23 sovereign tribes, nations, and pueblos, each with rich cultures, languages, and traditions that have shaped this land for thousands of years.
Today is a day to celebrate Indigenous resilience, recognize the ongoing contributions of Native peoples, and recommit to honoring tribal sovereignty and supporting Indigenous communities.
Happy Indigenous Peoples' Day.

New Mexico has bet big on Quantum, and it’s paying off: our new Quantum Cryogenic Testing & Workforce Development Center at Albuquerque's Roadrunner Quantum Lab will train the next generation of quantum technicians and give companies open access to the cutting-edge equipment they need to test and deploy new technology.
World-class research is happening right here in New Mexico, and New Mexicans will get the chance to help shape the future of this paradigm-shifting technology. I’d call that a win-win!
Great to meet Josh Kerr at Saturday's Lobo game, where we watched UNM beat UTEP 61–7!
Before he became the fastest miler in history, Josh was winning NCAA titles in the mile and 1,500 meters at UNM. In July he ran 3:42.66 in London, breaking a world record that had stood since 1999.
The fastest mile ever run was run by a Lobo. 🐺 #GoLobos

Summer is over. The numbers are in: New Mexico just experienced its hottest summer on record.
Climate change is real and it’s happening right here, right now. That’s why I’ve spent the last eight years taking climate action seriously and positioning New Mexico to lead in the clean energy economy.
Today, more than half of New Mexico’s electricity comes from renewable energy. We surpassed our 50% renewable energy goal five years ahead of schedule. We’ve doubled our wind power capacity, built one of the fastest-growing clean energy workforces in the country and attracted billions of dollars in private clean energy investment.
The data is clear. So is our responsibility. New Mexico will keep leading.
For more than 25 years, trucks bound for WIPP have been rolling down New Mexico highways. As of this week, the Department of Energy is helping with the upkeep: a $10 million grant to rehabilitate the US 285 Relief Route.
Well-maintained roads are a safety measure for every driver using US 285. Thank you to DOE and our congressional delegation for getting this done. It's a solid down payment, and New Mexico will keep asking for the rest.

This weekend, hundreds of balloons will begin filling Albuquerque’s skies for the Balloon Fiesta, one of New Mexico’s favorite traditions.
Whether you’re watching the mass ascension from Balloon Fiesta Park with a breakfast burrito in hand or spotting balloons from across the city, I hope you get a chance to enjoy the magic.
