Thank you to @AWGNorfolk and @PhilforVirginia for your persistence in getting this done — and for leading us in taking an important step to make Virginia communities safer for all.
I am proud to be the Governor who says “yes” to commonsense legislation that keeps Virginians safe. Today in Norfolk, I signed legislation to keep dangerous weapons out of our hospitals and medical facilities. Because whether you’re recovering from surgery, visiting a family member, or one of the hardworking medical professionals who care for our loved ones, you deserve to do so safely and without fear.
“I'm incredibly proud to be a constituent of Governor Spanberger. She made it happen, and it will change the lives of so many in the Commonwealth for the better.”
— Chrischa shares what the signing of Paid Family & Medical Leave means to her
As Atlantic hurricane season begins, I urge every Virginian to take the time now to review their emergency plans and make sure their families are fully prepared for the months ahead.
Whether you live in Hampton Roads, Southwest Virginia, or anywhere in between, severe weather can impact every community across our Commonwealth.
We spent the morning at the Emergency Operations Center working together to strengthen interagency coordination and statewide preparedness — but first responders, community organizations, and individual Virginians are equally as important to an effective disaster response.
“I lost everything. And while I got insurance money, zoning laws made it impossible for me to find a new home. I thought I was just going to have to move somewhere else, but then I got a second opinion and learned that our Governor was signing new laws easing zoning restrictions. Now, thanks to Governor Spanberger, I’m able to buy a new home in this area.”
— John LaFlamme, resident of Rocky Mount, Virginia
We are opening more doors to homeownership for families across Virginia!
Zoning laws across Virginia have treated manufactured housing differently than site-built homes, leaving families with fewer options.
With the new legislation I signed yesterday, we are making sure red tape doesn't stand in the way of Virginians achieving the American Dream of owning a home.
Virginia has a housing affordability problem across the board. It is real, it is urgent, and it is one of the biggest threats to the strength of our Commonwealth. That is why housing is one of the pillars of my Affordable Virginia Agenda. The bills I signed in Rocky Mount yesterday take concrete steps to tackle the housing crisis — increasing supply, lowering housing costs, and expanding homeownership opportunities.
I’m in Rocky Mount, and I just toured some beautiful manufactured homes and signed legislation to help Virginians across our Commonwealth afford a home and find a community to call their own.
I join the Chesterfield County Police Department in praying for the swift recovery of their officers who were injured in yesterday's shooting, and in mourning the loss of their K-9, "Knight." I'm grateful to these officers and to all of our first responders who work to keep our neighbors safe.

In Virginia, every family, every worker, every community member deserves to live with dignity and without fear.
That has always been the promise of our Commonwealth. Pride Month is a reminder that we are strongest when we stand together. 🏳️🌈
May 31, 2019: As we mark 7 years since the tragedy on our Municipal Campus, we continue to honor and forever remember those we lost, those seriously injured, survivors and all those who carry the scars of that day and are still healing. https://t.co/yhuRjNcdU2
Today, flags across Virginia flew at half-staff in memory of the 12 people who were shot and killed at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center seven years ago.
My heart is with everyone who lost a loved one and all those who still bear the scars of that day.
From my first day in office, my Administration has focused on delivering the pragmatic leadership Virginians deserve.
We passed my entire Affordable Virginia Agenda into law — which will make a significant, lasting difference for families across the Commonwealth.
No Virginian should be rationing insulin because of the price tag. That's why I signed legislation capping the monthly out-of-pocket cost of insulin at $35. Healthcare should be about your health — not your bank account. #AffordableVirginia
Our kids are our future — and our future is so bright.
Affordable childcare is one of the core priorities of my Affordable Virginia Agenda. It was awesome to get to hang out with some kids this week as a reminder of who we’re working hard for.
Deputy Logan Utt’s sacrifice is a testament to his bravery and dedication to his community.
To Deputy Utt’s family, friends, and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office — as you grieve, know that the entire Commonwealth stands with you at this extremely difficult time.
Adam and I are praying for Deputy Utt’s family, the injured officer during his recovery, and for the safety of all of our courageous men and women in law enforcement.
My office is closely monitoring this tragic incident. I encourage anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts to contact Virginia State Police. My thoughts are with the deputy’s family and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office as we work through this awful situation.
Virginia State Police is currently investigating the officer-involved shooting portion of this incident.
VSP would like to express their condolences to the family of the slain deputy as well as the Carroll County Sheriff's Office.

Elections aren't won by one person, they are won by communities who show up and make informed decisions.
Primary elections in Virginia will be held on August 4, with early voting starting in just a few weeks.

Virginia farmers are facing catastrophic crop losses through no fault of their own.
I'm calling on USDA to make sure farmers receive the assistance and support they need to recover and keep their operations viable until the next crop year.
