I had resigned from my place of work, I was at home for almost two months and lied to my dad that I’m
on annual leave. In his words “annual leave fun osu meji” !! I told him “en, I didn’t take last year’s own”
Jokes on me!!
Around 2019, I tried unilag masters entry with a friend but I didn’t make the cut off mark for the course. I questioned myself, I told God “but you always do it for me on my first attempt” i was sad but we what ?? We mueveeeeee.
Back to my work resignation which happened in June 2021, I eventually told my dad one evening about it and he laughed at me and said “sheybi mo so fun e koma shise forty thousand” lol ,
He proceeded to ask me what I’ve saved from my three years of working, I said I saved my life ! Cos me no get shishi, I no get kobo!
My dad: Abi wa lo shey masters e ni uk ?
Me: e so pe ????????????????
And then it started, I was scared and it feels unreal. You might be thinking, “studying in the uk is not an achievement”, well, it is! It is to me! It’s a big achievement. I couldn’t believe it until I stepped my foot on the land. Went from not having a passport to being a masters student in the university of bradford.
My first day in the uk, mo sun babanla ekun, I cried so much not because of anything but the touch of snow on my body. Struggled to change my naira to pounds( biggest mistake I made) I couldn’t pay for my rent on the spot, it took a lot of calls to see someone to help me change my pounds. Let me slid in one lie “I know nothing about currency exchange rate, I was more concerned about the money I want to get from my dad” ahh owo yen por ooo not knowing what it’ll amount to,
Mo jego big time purr 🌚
Not to bore y’all, this post is mainly dedicated to Alade Best ! My father! Thank you for sponsoring my education right from the scratch to this point. I appreciate you, may your pocket never run dry( cos mo fe lo hajj mai dia), I pray for Allah’s blessings on you now and forever 🫂 I love you and I’m glad this distance has made me more closer to you, I can boldly tell you some things I can’t tell back home. Jazakumullahu Khairan, I’ve appreciated you privately and I’m doing so publicly as well! We sha dey post boivrend, why we no go post daddie plus baba mi gan hot mail! I love you, Alade best
Happy 63rd birthday to the love of my life, Oluremi. My trusted partner in every venture, and the one special person who has consistently filled my days with joy and laughter over 36 amazing years.
Today is not only a day to mark another year of your purposeful life but a beautiful reminder of the journey we have embarked upon together.
Through all these years, we have shared in the uncertainty of dangerous, but principled stands against tyranny. Many can not fully appreciate the sacrifices you made for us during that harrowing, dark era, but I do and always will.
We have experienced adventure, love, and laughter. We have celebrated victories, and we have wrestled down the monster of defeat, and we have done all in an inextricable bond.
Our bond has only grown stronger through thick and thin, and our love and commitment to each other has only deepened with time.
Thank you for being the ever-present sunshine that brightens my darkest hours.
Your kindness, your wisdom, and your inner and outer beauty continue to amaze me more each and every day.
As we celebrate your birthday, I want you to know how profoundly grateful I am for your serene presence in my life.
I look forward to many more years filled with even greater laughter and love as we continue on this path together, which God Almighty had predestined for us.
May the Good Lord, whom you serve with all your heart, continue to bless you with good health and longevity.
Happy birthday, Iyawo Mi!
Love always,
Bola
