This morning, it was an honor to commemorate Juneteenth in Manhattan Beach alongside residents from across LA County. Manhattan Beach is home to Bruce’s Beach, land that was unjustly taken from the Bruce family. In 2022, I was proud to co-author the motion with Supervisor Hahn for the County to return the land to the rightful heirs of Charles and Willa Bruce – restoring the family’s right to determine the future of their own property.

While returning the land did not undo the trauma of the past, it acknowledged an historic injustice and set an example for our nation. (1/2)
