My parents keep ending our phone calls with an earnest and excited "thank you for calling me," and I feel a tinge of guilt every time. I get so consumed by my work I disappear for long stretches. Days feel like one blur. Weeks feel like one day. Not enough time.
A world is supported by four things…the learning of the wise, the justice of the great, the prayers of the righteous and the valor of the brave. But all of these are as nothing…without a ruler who knows the art of ruling.
‘Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.’
‘I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
If you actually read the letter of the Pope it’s just a whole lot of common sense and nothing more.
Doesn’t call out anyone, doesn’t provide anything new, and is actually extremely careful.
Highly disappointed in it
Intelligence is like testosterone. You may have great quantities of it, but if your free testosterone is low - in the case of intelligence, action and curiosity - then it turns into a curse. It merely makes you frustrated and angry at the world.
Stubbornness is a virtue. Try & fail 80 times. Do the same workout for 10 years. Repeat the same prayers until they truly work. Forgive not once or twice but sevenfold & then some more. Love hard and get burnt, then love bigger than before. In Old English stubborn was used to describe a fiercely resolute & untamable spirit. Hold true to it. Be rigid enough that reality has no choice but to bend. Be strong enough to stand firm when the world wants you stirred. Be resilient enough to not allow anything to sway you from obeying what God's commanded your soul. That's what stubborn means. The man who can't fathom no as a possibility - it's he who gets the crown, the girl, the victory. We like to use the term perseverance, but raw human stubbornness is more common and relatable. We are all already stubborn. We just have to be so in the right things
Lately, when I’ve been going to places, I arrive and there's basically no line, isn’t so full, and then all of a sudden there is a massive line and it fills up. Interesting phenomenon.
Same applies to a child and an adult watching a movie, a man and a woman experiencing emotions or a relationship, etc.
Developed by Finnish physiologist, Uexkull
Umwelten = personal perception of environment
Umgebung = objective environment
To some extent, they overlap, as they share common factors, but the main difference comes in the umwelten for two different participants.
A dog and the owner on a walk, an objective environment is shared, some factors overlap, but umwelten is completely different. Different perception, focuses and experiences.
While being a physical phenomenon, the tiger has to rely on its complete opposite to hunt, stealth. It has to be extremely quiet, camouflaged, and decisive to catch its prey, all while standing out like it does. A perfect example of duality.
Tigers are fascinating when you think about it. A massive, colorful, feline, that stands out in every way. Orange with black stripes, piercing eyes, extremely powerful. Pure fast-twitch dominance. No slow-twitch whatsoever. Always alone.
Its prey is the complete opposite, slow twitch dominant, moves in packs, extremely aware of tigers as they’ve evolved to escape them. The prey has to be anywhere the tiger is not to survive, yet the tiger has to be in the exact place the prey is to catch it.
Do not forget to call your loved ones regularly, tell them about your life, listen to theirs, and open up to them. The importance of family and maintaining relationships is greater than you think.
