"God hates sin only because of what it does to us. Sin is nothing to God, except insofar as it damages us. And so this notion that salvation is about God having to deal with sin because he’s put off by it in some way… that needs to die.”
— @cewgreen (from a podcast, 2020)
"There are so-called doctrines long accepted by good people, of which I find it hard to understand how any man or woman can love God and hold, except by a tight closing of the spiritual eyes."
- @MacDonaldDaily
"Quick condemnation of views/ideas with which we disagree...is the sign of a narrow mind & of uncultivated intelligence. Bigotry is always ignorant; the wise boy, who will become the wise man, tries to understand truth in ideas with which he does not agree." - Anne Besant

“I can live with doubt, uncertainty & not knowing. I think it is much more interesting to live not knowing than to have answers that might be wrong … In order to make progress, one must leave the door to the unknown ajar.”
– 'The Uncertainty of Science' (1963), Richard P Feynman
"Whether your faith is that there is a God or that there is not a God, if you don’t have any doubts, you are either kidding yourself or asleep."
@Fred_Buechner
“The #Gospel is the exact opposite of what most people – including a lot of preachers – think it is…If the #Gospel is proclaimed correctly, therefore, it’s always going to sound nuts to us.” - Robert Capon
Nothing irks some folks more than losing a God who is wrathful, angry, retributive and punishing. This is only because we want so much to believe that God takes sides, and that side is, inevitably, our side.
Imagine the perspective we would have if we took the time to paint the faces of the people around us. Then we would be forced to hear their stories, and in doing so, we would find out that we are all more similar than we are different.
When your view of the One you obey, follow, and serve turns from a judicial deity to a relational Papa, your whole fundamentalist theological box will be destroyed.
