We are grateful.
After contracting Ebola while serving in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Dr. Peter Stafford has been discharged from the hospital in Berlin, and he and his family have been released from quarantine.
โOn behalf of our family, I would like to express our deep gratitude to God for preserving Peterโs life and to everyone who has prayed and continues to pray on our behalf,โ shared Rebekah Stafford.
We thank God for His mercy, for the countless people who prayed, and for the Congolese, American, and German medical professionals who cared so faithfully for the Stafford family.
As we celebrate this news, our hearts remain with the Congolese medical community: doctors, nurses, and frontline workers who continue to care for the sick every day, often with far fewer resources and far greater risks.
Please continue to pray for those still affected by this outbreak and for the healthcare workers serving them.

When our hearts are captivated by the love of heaven, the things of this world begin to lose their grip. May God's love fill our vision today, drawing us closer to what is eternal, true, and lasting.

We asked for your help to bring the gospel to a person in need, and many of you generously responded. Weโre so thankful for you.
If you gave a gift to ๐๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ข๐ค๐ต ๐ข ๐๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ข๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ, it was doubled and is already making a difference. Thank you for bringing the gospel to a person in need!
Your generosity is helping recruit, train, and send a young missionary and mentor future leaders.
Do you know a young person interested in missions? Whether itโs a short-term trip, summer internship, or apprenticeship, there are opportunities to go. https://t.co/FzV9YqWsOW
"His love for you strengthens you from the inside out; it builds you up so that you begin to function in the world as a restored human being with dignity and worth. Your love for Him begins to flower in response to His love for you, and it works itself out in love for your neighbor." - Marc Davis in "Is God Disappointed With Me?" @newgrowthpress

The world is changing. And weโre seeing the effects โ fewer mission recruits, fewer missionaries, and a struggling church.

As Dr. Peter Staffordโs health deteriorated and his Ebola symptoms intensified while serving in Congo, he could no longer walk to the evacuation transport on his own.
He needed others to hold him up.
That image has stayed with us.
Itโs a picture of ๐๐ช๐ด๐ด๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ข๐ณ๐บ ๐๐ข๐ณ๐ฆ in action.
Because of generous donors, Peterโs illness initiated a response across all of Serge โ coordination across multiple countries, support from regional leadership and staff teams, advocacy for Congolese medical professionals and communities, ongoing care for missionaries, and so much prayer.
Today, we are grateful to share that Peter is improving under specialized medical care and continues to be closely monitored by an experienced team. If you have already given to ๐๐ช๐ด๐ด๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ข๐ณ๐บ ๐๐ข๐ณ๐ฆ, thank you.
The Staffords serve in a vulnerable and under-resourced community out of a deep sense of calling. They believe Jesus meets people in places of great need. Through your support, they do not go alone.
Your gift today to ๐๐ช๐ด๐ด๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ข๐ณ๐บ ๐๐ข๐ณ๐ฆ will be doubled, dollar-for-dollar, until midnight on Sunday, May 31st. Your donation will help care for, protect, and support workers in hard places.

โSince the original Bundibugyo ebolavirus outbreak in 2007, Serge has spent the last two decades building capacity in that remote district in health and education. Our DRC team and regional leadership have invested, and continue to invest, in the Ituri province. We are pressed but not crushed, struck down but not destroyed, and are committed to continuing to carry the resurrection life of Jesus to the most frayed edges of East and Central Africa.โ

While three people from our team of medical care providers in the DRC were evacuated, hundreds of their Congolese colleagues remain in the fray. Please continue to pray for Peter to be healed, for Rebekah and their kids, and for Patrick to remain well. But along with those three prayer requests, please also pray for these three: Nurse Tony, Laboratory manager Placida, and Kitenge Richard (the doctor who is heading the response). Please join us in praying for the Spirit to pour out endurance and love in excess in the DRC.
Every day in remote places, a pregnant woman desperately needs medical care. Due to a lack of quality healthcare, either the mother or the baby, or both, will die.
But medical missionaries are changing that. They provide life-saving medical care that you and I take for granted.
Missionaries are training and discipling national medical professionals. So that trained nationals will provide medical care for future generations.

Please continue praying for Dr. Peter Stafford, who remains critically ill but is now receiving expert medical care in Berlin following his Ebola diagnosis in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Peter shared, โBefore I was evacuated, I was feeling really concerned I wasnโt going to make it. And now Iโm cautiously optimistic.โ
We are deeply grateful for the doctors, nurses, and medical teams caring for Peter around the clock, as well as the many people who have prayed, served, and worked tirelessly behind the scenes during this crisis.
Please pray:
โข for Peterโs healing and recovery
โข for Rebekah and their children, who remain asymptomatic and under monitoring
โข for Dr. Patrick LaRochelle, who also remains asymptomatic
โข for the Congolese communities, patients, and healthcare workers affected by this outbreak
โข for wisdom, mercy, and strength for all responding to the crisis

A message from Jennifer Myhre, Serge Area Director for East & Central Africa:
โWords cannot express our gratefulness to God for His mercy, to our global community of workers and supporters for their prayers, and to the dozens of competent, dedicated medical and civil servants who worked day and night to make these evacuations possible.
But words also cannot express the depth of our grieving concern for the DRC and Uganda. The breadth of the spread of Bundibugyo ebolavirus remains unclear, the international response is just beginning, and we now have two Congolese colleagues confirmed positive in hospitals we support.
โLord, have mercyโ is our prayer, and โlet us rally to do our workโ is our cry.โ
Please continue praying for all affected by this outbreak.

This year, we have 33 summer interns and 17 vocational interns going to 18 teams all over the world, from Latin America all the way to East Asia! We love seeing the next generation go forth for the Kingdom of God. Please join us in lifting them all up in prayer!
๐๐๐๐๐๐:
โWe are so pleased to know that Dr. Rebekah Stafford and her four young children, along with Dr. Patrick LaRochelle, are now on their way out of DRC to a location where they can continue to be monitored and kept safe. A major priority at Serge is the care of our workers as they pour their lives out for the good of others and the flourishing of communities. Please continue to pray for the Stafford family as they walk through this weighty moment in their lives, aware of Godโs presence among them.โ
