What's the difference, you ask? Excellent question! To belie is to give a false idea of something (often unintentionally), whereas to betray is to reveal a truth (often one you meant to keep hidden). (2/3)

@LittleHardman @victoriastrauss This. Depending on the royalty structure, a publishing contract that doesn't include advances isn't necessarily a red flag. But an agent making money even if the author doesn't see a cent? HUGE red flag.
