Welcomed lecturers and students from the Faculty of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs at IE University, Spain, who are in Kenya for an academic exchange programme.

I engaged them on Kenya’s foreign policy priorities, highlighting our commitment to safeguarding sovereignty, promoting peace and security, and advancing national interests through strong bilateral and multilateral partnerships anchored on regionalism, Pan-Africanism and multilateralism.

I encouraged the students to take up their role as global ambassadors of peace and stability, especially in a world facing increasing conflict, and wished them a meaningful and enriching stay in Kenya.

Present were Chief of Staff Joseph Busiega, Director General of the Foreign Service Academy Amb. Patrick Wamoto, and Director General for Political and Diplomatic Affairs Amb. Josephat Maikara.

Kenya proudly welcomes the appointment of two of our distinguished nationals, Prof. Beatrice Obado and Dr. Kevit Desai, to the 54-Member Spain–Africa Advisory Committee, established to guide the implementation of the Spain–Africa Strategy 2024–2028.

During a courtesy call to my office by H.E. Jaime Moreno, Ambassador of Spain to Kenya, I underscored that this milestone reflects the growing recognition of Kenyan expertise on the global stage and the trust Spain places in our people. It is a testament to Kenya’s steady rise as a hub of thought leadership and innovation on the African continent.

I expressed confidence that their participation will enrich this important initiative and deepen the enduring bridge of friendship, cooperation, and shared prosperity between Africa and Spain.

Our bilateral relations with Spain continue to gain momentum, demonstrated by the recent high-level exchanges and the successful second round of Political Consultations held in Nairobi in July, where education, labour mobility, tourism, and investment were reaffirmed as key pillars of collaboration.

Kenya remains committed to fast-tracking the establishment of the Kenya–Spain Joint Higher Education Committee (JHEC) to actualize the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Higher Education, further empowering our youth through knowledge and skills exchange.

Trade, a central pillar of Kenya–Spain relations, continues to grow, buoyed by the Kenya–EU Economic Partnership Agreement, which grants Kenyan exports duty- and quota-free access to European markets, including Spain. I emphasized Kenya’s desire to partner with Spain in strengthening our capacity to meet EU sanitary and phytosanitary standards, ensuring more of our high-quality products reach European consumers.

Together, we are shaping a partnership that not only drives mutual growth but also strengthens the shared vision of a more connected and prosperous Africa–Europe relationship.
