"How could I introduce my Ss to the world in a way that would focus on their modes of learning and their talents? ... Who are my Ss outside of their reading and writing skills? ... How do the ways in which I talk about my Ss speak to the ways I choose (or don’t choose) to teach?"
Putting aside my critical lense to just feel warm and fuzzy on the inside knowing that a woman with Black/brown intersectional identity is the VP of 🇺🇸. 🤗
We NEED a public apology. On social media... The same place this photo was shared. Leaders must lead, and that means admitting to mistakes and lapses in judgement when they occur. Especially when lives are at stake.
Guess which students in these self-portraits are BIPOC? Believe it or not, all except one. And yet, we ran out of "ivory" crayons while the browns remained neglected. It happens every year. Just an example of racial neutrality, colourbilndness and white supremacy in #onted! 1/5

Since Orange Shirt Day is tomorrow, I encourage you to watch this short film that "draws parallels between the annihilation of the bison in the 1890s and the devastation inflicted on the Indigenous population by the residential school system."

Whether it's bedtime or quiet time, listen to #TeamHPL staff read wonderful children's stories on the telephone.
Dial our main line, 905-546-3200, and choose "Option 4" to listen to seven different stories. Stay tuned, a French story will be coming soon. #HamOnt#kids#families
@HWDSB must LISTEN to @AhonaMehdi and the many others speaking out. This is an opportunity to sit in discomfort and then make a plan for true change. Otherwise we as white "allies" are even more dangerous than blatant racists, bc we are more polite about it. Thank you, Ahona. ✊🏻
Find out what the people who represent you are saying (or not saying) about the issues you care about. Use it to inform yourself and place an informed vote in November.

@fordnation@Sflecce@samoosterhoff Put a stop to Bill197 changes to remove requirements for Ed Directors to be qualified teachers. This has nothing to do with COVID. No stepping stones for privatization!
@XjusticeXpeace@ParsaShahid @Drawn2Intellect Agreed, I thought for a long time that if I taught about different holidays and languages and foods then I had covered my bases. Ts need to realize how humbling this is going to be, acknowledging how we've complied with racism for so long and starting over.
Can I just take a second to say how thankful I am for my career! 🙌💞 Seriously though, @HWDSB has the best staff, educators, leaders, collaborators, and supporters of learning!
