PolyU announces Strategic Plan for 2025/26 to 2030/31
PolyU today unveiled its new Strategic Plan, outlining the University’s development direction for the coming six academic years to seize emerging opportunities and reach new heights of academic excellence. Under the theme “Unite to Meet Challenges, Innovate to Benefit Society,” the Strategic Plan sets forth PolyU’s visionary roadmap for 2025/26 to 2030/31. It will guide the University in its continued pursuit of excellence in teaching and research.
The Strategic Plan was formulated under six key domains, namely:
1. Quality of Student Experience of Teaching and Learning
2. Research Performance and Research Postgraduate Experience
3. Knowledge Transfer and Wider Engagement
4. Enhanced Internationalisation and Engagement with the Mainland
5. Financial Health, Institutional Social Responsibilities and Sustainability
6. Development of College of Professional and Continuing Education

PolyU submitted proposal for Hong Kong’s third medical school fostering AI and medicine-engineering integration🎉
#PolyU has submitted a proposal to the HKSAR Government for the establishment of Hong Kong’s third medical school and held a press conference today. Dr LAM Tai-fai, PolyU Council Chairman and Prof. Jin-Guang TENG, President, along with Prof. Wing-tak WONG, Deputy President and Provost; Prof. David SHUM, Dean of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences; and Prof. HE Mingguang, Chair Professor of Experimental Ophthalmology and Global STEM Scholar, shared the latest developments regarding the University’s efforts to establish Hong Kong’s third medical school.
PolyU expressed its heartfelt gratitude to its Expert Advisory Committee members for their significant contributions to the proposal, including: Prof. ZHONG Nanshan, Recipient of the Medal of the Republic; Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Director of the Guangzhou National Laboratory, Prof. Barry MARSHALL, Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine; Professor, Senior Honorary Research Fellow of the School of Biomedical Sciences, Marshall Centre, The University of Western Australia and Dr York CHOW Yat Ngok, Former Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food / Secretary for Food and Health of the HKSAR Government; Former Hospital Chief Executive of Queen Mary Hospital.
Dr Lam Tai-fai stated, “PolyU is committed to supporting the Government by contributing both financially and through dedicated efforts to develop the third medical school. We stand with the Government during challenging times and pledge to cover all financial expenses if needed before the medical school relocates to the UniTown in Ngau Tam Mei.” Furthermore, Prof. Jin-Guang Teng stated, “PolyU has achieved remarkable success in medicine-engineering integration and AI-powered medical advancements. The university will also establish an “AI+ Academy”, with a focus on pioneering research in AI-assisted diagnosis and treatment, leveraging its advantages in medicine-engineering integration to advance healthcare technology.”

These labs, spearheaded by distinguished PolyU scholars from the HKSAR Government-initiated Global STEM Professorship Scheme, aim to advance #innovative research in the fields of machine learning and computer vision, healthy built environment, innovative light therapy for eye diseases, quantum technology, 2D quantum materials, earth observations, digital oncology care enhancement and genomics in healthcare. 💻 🧪🧫🔬
