@CGC_SI@PressingContent Even at those number this is so historic and collectible that it would be a wise purchase. Could see this multiplying in value over time. Would be a great investment! Thanks for sharing.
Pop culture magazines seem to be getting more and more traction. This is Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones on the cover of LucasFilm Fan Club Magazine from March 1989. I’m cleaning and pressing this piece for a customer.
While the LucasFilm Fan Club started in 1977 and still operates today, the magazine had a limited 22 issue run from 1987 until 1994 when it was rebranded as Star Wars Insider.
The flaws at the bottom cleaned up nicely. My customer chose CGC as the grading company for this. By the way, it’s autographed too!
@card_guide They are an impressive set of cards. Personally, I’m looking into the magazine space and have just purchased this Japanese Wrestling magazine from 1979. Getting sent to CGC for grading soon!
Picked this up for less than €1. Still in wrapper and condition looks very good. I think Tech covers are going to be hugely popular as the magazine hobby grows!
Seemed like Tiger Woods ruled the sports world in the early 2000’s, winning majors and always appearing on the cover of Sports Illustrated. This one came out 26 years ago today.
When this came out Tiger had just won the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville Kentucky. While we didn’t know it at the time, he was in the middle of the “Tiger Slam”, winning all 4 majors consecutively. After this, the only one remaining was the 2001 Masters.

CGC just introduced Sports Illustrated custom labels.
These are available whenever you submit to grade Sports Illustrated. I’m told the cost is $8 each. Just like the SLAM custom labels, choosing this option will create a separate ordering tier, just like if you were to submit modern and vintage in the same order. If you have some issues with the custom label, and some without, CGC will split this into 2 orders with 2 separate wait times and separate shipping.
When ordering these custom labels, it will be most efficient to sent these in batches of 5. So either 5, 10, 15, etc.

While I didn’t attend, I’m getting rave reviews about the SLAM booth at Fanatics Fest. Just look at all the slabbed issues they have!
Then I saw Amar’e Stoudemire post this on his IG. This is the first time I’ve ever seen an athlete acknowledge the graded magazine hobby like this. And not just any athlete, this guy was the NBA Rookie of the Year and a 6x All-Star.
Crazy to see how far this hobby has come!

Today in 1986 Diego Maradona gets his 1st Sports Illustrated cover during the World Cup in Mexico. This copy is graded in newsstand at CGC 8.0
Maradona and Argentina would go on to win the World Cup that year. That path to victory included the famous “Hand of God” goal vs England and 3-2 win vs West Germany in the title game
