A lot of it comes down to matchups in your system.

Based on how we structure our O-line, we typically run toward the 3-tech, which lets the guard handle the initial surge from the defensive tackle instead of putting our (often undersized) center in a tougher situation against a 1-tech with less help.

That said, both approaches have their advantages depending on your personnel and scheme.
