#clectio#Isaiah 13:11
I will punish the world for its evil,
and the wicked for their iniquity;
I will put an end to the pride of the arrogant,
and lay low the insolence of tyrants.
Judgement belongs to God. Do we make it our responsibility? Matt 7:1 Do not judge lest...
#clectio#Matthew8 v34: “Then the whole town came out to meet Jesus; and when they saw him, they begged him to leave their neighbourhood.“ What could they not cope with? Healing? Change? Disturbance? @CofEDevon#growinginprayer#wordsofcomfort here?
#Isaiah9#cLectio Is it "stretching" it too far to read it as a judgement against a nation and politicians who see food banks a good thing, have stolen pensions from women and think people can live on nothing for 5 weeks and the gifts of God become self serving.
Looking for #wordsofcomfort but finding #Isaiah 9:8 - 10:4 repeated refrain:
For all this, his anger has not turned away;
his hand is stretched out still.
Jesus’ hands outstretched in compassion on the cross; and ours? @CofEDevon#clectio#CommonWorship
#wordsofcomfort#clectio Isaiah 9:2
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness—on them light has shined.
Nothing superficial here. The deeper the darkness the brighter the light? God’ people enduring in faithfulness?
Full disclosure - I am wearing a Christmas jumper right now and need to drop something into the Bishop’s office in a minute. If he’s in, I will ask him.
#clectio In his counsel of perfection #Matthew5 Jesus urges: Give to everyone who begs from you... I find this impossible even over the length of the High St. Am I so far from perfection? #praygrowserve@CofEDevon
#clectio Grim consequences as God whistles up the invader in #Isaiah5_30
They will roar over it on that day,
like the roaring of the sea.
And if one looks to the land—
only darkness and distress;
and the light grows dark with clouds. @CofEDevon
