@thebrokenwxman "Come by the offices at 9:00 am, alright? We'll get ya all set up."

[𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐛𝐲 @Grand_Ambitions]

@thebrokenwxman "No, tomorrow would be good," Tommy said. He extinguished his cigarette butt with a twist against the ashtray. "The sooner the better. Got a bunch of correspondence to go out."

[𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐛𝐲 @Grand_Ambitions]

@thebrokenwxman "Teasin' me, are ya? Alright. S'pose I deserve that. When can ya start?"

[𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐛𝐲 @Grand_Ambitions]

@thebrokenwxman "Just like that, eh? Not even gonna pretend to string me along?"

[𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐛𝐲 @Grand_Ambitions]

@thebrokenwxman "Don't think on that too much. Just consider the job. I have a feeling you'd be good at it."

[𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐛𝐲 @Grand_Ambitions]

@thebrokenwxman "C'mon now. That can't be news to ya," he said with an amused sniff. "Take some time. Think about it."

[𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐛𝐲 @Grand_Ambitions]

@thebrokenwxman Tommy nodded. "I'm selfish. I'd rather have ya workin' for me than at some shop, Lizzie. But what do /you/ want?"

[𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐛𝐲 @Grand_Ambitions]

@thebrokenwxman "Aye," he confirmed.

He took a slow drag of his cigarette and exhaled the smoke out of the corner of his mouth.

"Didn't ya mention to me that ya been learnin' to type? I got an opening for a secretary. Decent pay, consistent hours, no 'extracurriculars'...if ya follow me."

[𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐛𝐲 @Grand_Ambitions]

@thebrokenwxman "Well, to be candid with ya, I think ya got alotta talent in your current field." He gave her a mischievous wink. "But if you're lookin' for more prestige, you should come work for me."

[𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐛𝐲 @Grand_Ambitions]

@thebrokenwxman "You're askin' me?" Tommy said, a hint of a smirk on his face. "Think that's a good idea, d'ya?"

[𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐛𝐲 @Grand_Ambitions]

@thebrokenwxman "I think you've experienced too much to fit in with that lot. You'd find them tiresome and naïve. But if that's what ya wanna do, I'll write ya a good letter of recommendation."

[𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐛𝐲 @Grand_Ambitions]

@thebrokenwxman He flicked his thumb across his lighter and lit the end of her cigarette.

"Aye, dull. Seem to be in my experience, anyway. And you, you're not."

[𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐛𝐲 @Grand_Ambitions]

@thebrokenwxman "Shop girl, eh? Aren't they all a bit dull around the edges? Don't know if ya woulda enjoyed that."

He pulled a single cigarette free of the case and lit the end. Holding the silver case out to her, he asked:

"Smoke, Lizzie?"

[𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐛𝐲 @Grand_Ambitions]

@thebrokenwxman That surprised him, but true to form, he refrained from showing any reaction.

"That so? What would you have done instead?"

[𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐛𝐲 @Grand_Ambitions]

@thebrokenwxman "Why couldn't ya sleep?" he asked, removing his cigarette case from the pocket of his trousers. "Somethin' on your mind?"

[𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐛𝐲 @Grand_Ambitions]

@thebrokenwxman "I can, eh? And why might that be?"

[𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐛𝐲 @Grand_Ambitions]

@thebrokenwxman "Bad night, Lizzie?"
