sometimes I think I'm too generous with the scores I give games and gotta take a step back and ask myself if I can *really* put into words why I would give something a 9 or a 10. but at the same time yes Picross 3D Round 2 is indeed a 10/10 and no I'm not changing my mind on that

looking at pre-covid retro game prices depresses the fuck out of me man. you used to be able to get a cib copy of silent hill 2 for less than $30 for over a decade make it make sense!!

After playing Nanashi no Game I'm trying to compile a complete list of DS games that feature a DS parody in the game itself as a gameplay/story mechanic. So far I've got

I don't think they really need defending now at this point, I had this thought recently but these sorts of games have carved out their own audience today and are more successful and plentiful than ever. we are far past when that term was coined and dear esther was clowned on

I'll always defend walking sims cuz games are full of beautiful environments that you are rapidly railroaded through. The "open world" formula attempts to address this but often falls flat because it keeps trying to promise "content" to people who don't see exploration as content

nanashi no game is neat as hell. not very often you see a game with a faux system UI contextualized within it and it’s especially unique on DS. also does the whole glitchy/corrupted haunted retro game deal when that sort of horror was in its infancy

@JunkyardTuner it's been a bit myself since I've dabbled in the "essentials," genre defining games and whatnot. FF7, MGS1, and Half Life are at the top of my list of must plays I somehow haven't got around to yet rn

anyone got any good itchio horror game recs? stuff that isn't explicitly horror but still surreal/experimental is welcome too. been wanting to dive into it more for some shorter experiences. ik there's a lot of gems on there and I feel I'm just scratching the surface
