@jurbed @jiayu6654 @openbazaar Seems to me we won’t see more OB users until we get more basic web 3.0 infrastructure in place. Decentralized identifiers that interface with user friendly hardware wallets. And decentralized reputation, which to me is the most fascinating unsolved problem in this entire space.

@jurbed @jiayu6654 @openbazaar I hadn’t thought it through, but you’re right. They could write it into the code that some percentage of each transaction would go to OB1. Of course, anyone could fork the code and redirect the fee, but then would have to maintain the fork which would incur its own expense.

@jiayu6654 @openbazaar OB1 runs its own third party search engine. They don’t sell ads (unless I’m mistaken?) I’d love to see a turn key, easy to run open source model for someone to run a search engine and sell ad space. Wouldn’t that keep OB alive even without donations?

@jiayu6654 @openbazaar That would require a token, which they never wanted to issue. And I respect that decision very much. A truly decentralized marketplace must be able to survive without reliance on any single entity, in this case, OB1.

@openbazaar I’d be curious to see a little more detail what those costs are and how much they add up to. What would it take to keep OB on life support through 2021? Might be easier to attract donors if they know more precisely what needs they’re filling.

In 2014 OpenBazaar started and today we're announcing that it is now time to perhaps close this chapter, unless the community comes together to help.

I'm extremely proud of what we accomplished over the years and the principles of what we stood for will remain!

@edvardr @jenzhuscott This is desperately needed. The question is: who’s going to do it? Who’s going to fact check the fact checkers? Who’s going to watch the watchers?

Addressing this problem will be one application of a web of trust based reputation system built on top of #decentralizedIdentifiers.
