Minhas sinceras desculpas.”
This is Ngo Pa (เงาะป่า) in traditional Thai performing arts. It is a classical literary work that has been performed for generations, including in royal court performances. The distinctive makeup and costume are part of portraying this specific literary character, not a racial caricature.
The story's central message is actually the opposite of judging people by their appearance. Ngo Pa teaches that a person's true worth lies in their character, kindness, and humanity—not in their skin color or outward appearance. It challenges prejudice and reminds us not to judge others based on how they look.
We understand that people from different cultures may interpret these images differently because of their own historical experiences. That's why learning each other's cultural context and approaching these conversations with mutual respect is so important.
Today is both Thai Language Day and Sunthorn Phu Day, celebrating Thailand's greatest poet and our literary heritage.
A young man chose to dress as one of the most iconic characters from a beloved Thai literary work, something generations of Thai students have grown up reading and learning from. Yet instead of celebrating literature and culture, he found himself condemned by people who either failed to understand the cultural context or seized the opportunity to perform moral superiority without first considering the history and meaning behind what they were seeing.
It is deeply unfortunate that a celebration of a literary tradition cherished by countless young people in this country has been turned into a source of controversy simply because it was viewed through a completely different cultural lens.
Anyone who has genuinely followed him knows he has never shown malice towards anyone. On the contrary, those who have worked closely with him—including directors—have often spoken of his kindness, sincerity, and gentle character. Forcing him into public shame and an apology may satisfy some, but it is worth remembering that such public condemnation also inflicts genuine hurt on many others.
If we are to ask people to learn, listen, and respect one another's humanity, then those principles should extend in every direction. Cultural understanding is not achieved by demanding empathy for one perspective while denying it to another.

Hi everyone, Poom here.
First of all, I would like to explain that my intention was simply to portray a character from Thai literature. I never intended to mock, disrespect, or hurt anyone or any culture.
I sincerely apologize to everyone who felt hurt, uncomfortable, or disappointed by my appearance during today’s livestream.
From now on, I will be more thoughtful and careful in everything I do.
Lastly, I want to thank everyone who continues to believe in me and understand me. I’ve read your messages, and I’m truly grateful for all of your support.
