A new affordable housing complex will be built in East Albany. The Dogwood Trails Apartments will be built on Marie road. The complex will offer meetings for residents, partnerships with the Boys & Girls Club and monthly visits from Albany Area Primary Health Care.
The Albany Community is out here tonight to learn about the city’s sewer system. They’re learning why there were so many sewage spills last year, how the problem will be fixed and why millions of gallons of sewage spill after heavy rain every month.

Now the different agencies are going through real life scenarios, like what to do when roads are flooded and power is lost. They’ve mapped out different driving routes and will use communication services like Code Red and social media.
Georgia Power, Public Works Crews and surrounding counties’ EMA directors are meeting today to go over their Emwrgency Action Plans. They’re learning what to do if a nearby dam fails or floods during a natural disaster, like heavy rains and flooding.
Dougherty County has started collecting TSPLOST dollars. Now commissioners are putting together a priority list of projects, like roadway improvements, Flint River Trails, sidewalk improvements and many more.
Business leaders and employers from across South Georgia are meeting this morning at Albany Technical College. They’re learning how to bridge the gap between school and joining the workforce by offering apprenticeships to students!
Dougherty County Commissioners approved closing one mile of Blue Springs Rd near the Wildfair Rd intersection. It’s right up the street from Blue Springs Plantation. The owners of the plantations in the area want to keep people from littering on the road and want more privacy.
Marty Adams, the spokesperson for the Blue Springs Plantation, says they would agree to keep the gates to the cemeteries open during the day. AND he says he’ll put his phone number on a sign outside of the gates for anyone to call if it’s closed and they want to go in.
ON THE SCENE: We’re told Albany Police Department pulled two people from a burning home on Mississippi Avenue. Multiple Albany Fire Department crews responded to the home around 7:30 this morning.
Dougherty County Public Works staff are also being celebrated this week! County Chairman Chris Cohilas named this week 2019 National Public Works Week. Public Works managers joined in today’s recognition.
Dougherty County EMS has earned the 2019 Region 8 EMS Service of the Year Award for all of their hard work! Now County Chairman Chris Cohilas has proclaimed this week Emergency Medical Services week!
If the FY 2020 budget is approved, the City of Albany’s budget would be around $288 million. This is a 5.6% increase from last year. City Manager Sharon Subadan says there would be no millage rate increase and no increase in utility rates or fees to account for the increase.
