I started this account because I dig graves (figuratively). I’ve always been fascinated famous people’s graves. Maybe it’s knowing that we are all equal in the end? I hope to share some local Chicago history and honor the final resting place of some notable local souls.

George Halas - Owner of the Chicago Bears and one of the founders of the NFL. Buried in St Adalbert Cemetery in Niles IL (NW side of Chicago).

The St Valentine’s Day Massacre occurred on 2/14/1929. Among the 7 victims were Peter and Frank Gusenberg, as well as Albert Kachellek. The Gusenbergs in Bugs Morans gang, while Kachellek was Moran’s second in command.

They are buried at Irving Park Cemetery - Chicago

@NadigNewspapers @Taft_HS A summer Olympic champion is also fro the NW side. Sybil Bauer won the Gold Medal 🥇 in the backstroke in the 1924 Paris Olympics. She went to Schurz HS.

The grave of Dr. Victor Frankenstein. No, not that Dr. Frankenstein. He passed away in 1955 and is buried in Rosehill Cemetery in Chicago. This Dr. Frankenstein (supposedly) never created The Creature. 🎃

‘Deacon’ White was a HOF baseball player and is considered to be the 1st player in the Major Leagues. White played from 1871 to 1890 for various teams including the @cubs. He died in 1939 and was elected to the HOF in 2012. He is buried at Restland Cemetery, Mendota IL.

@PrezWisdom Westlawn Cemetery in Norridge, near Montrose and Harlem. Also buried there is Shel Silverstein, Gene Siskle, Leonard Chess (Chess Records) and Abe Saperstein (Harlem Globetrotters). 🪦

Fred Goetz was a hitmen involved in the St Valentine’s Day Massacre. Goetz would ‘talk’ when was drinking, so when he was murdered in 1934, it was thought someone wanted to silence him. He’s buried at Irving Park Cemetery in Chicago, IL. Grave location unknown.

Leonard Chess founded Chess Records and was hugely influential on the Chicago Blues scene, signing countless legendary musicians. The Rolling Stones were fans and recorded at Chess studios in 1964. He is buried at Westlawn Cemetery in Norridge IL #chicagoblues #bluesfest
