Fifteen years ago I'd have been one of those encouraging "proper conservative" responses to everything going on. Hell, ten years ago I was very vocal about giving Trump side-eye. But even I have to admit that "proper conservativism" has mostly proven to be a Loyal Opposition to determined, ever-marching Leftism.

Did "proper conservativism" thwart or roll back any of the terrible fiscal or social egregiousness of the past two decades? Did it make the right calls during the GWOT? How about continuing to fund the trillion-dollar defense umbrella for Europe, while Europe's elite flip America the bird? And call us warmongers and idiots. At the same time they demand we go all-in on Ukraine.

I've reached the sad conclusion that American "proper conservativism" is mostly about admiring oneself in the mirror. Tie properly tied. Hair coifed. Suit nicely dry-cleaned and crisp. Op-ed after op-ed in the Wall Street Journal, or National Review. While the world just keeps rolling downhill. And little or nothing stops the Left from getting everything it wants. To include deeply destructive stuff, like endless spending deficits, or trans madness in the high schools. To name just two things. (There's a heap more!)

I'm still skeptical that Trump Term 2 can accomplish everything that has to be accomplished to keep America from sliding to a truly catastrophic place by 2030. But everyone railing against Trump (from the conservative side) seems to be refusing to admit that the "proper" way, lost. The "proper" man, was Mitt Romney. Whom I backed to the hilt. And he got spun around, sucker-punched, and laughed out of the race in 2012. To ultimately join the ranks of the nasty anti-Trumpers.

"Proper" opposition to evil people doing evil things to our country, just hasn't cut it over the last two decades.

This is how you get desperate normies throwing it all in with MAGA, and going ride-or-die. Because the "proper" people failed. Just outright failed. And I don't think any of them realize how badly they failed. Or how tin-eared and tone-deaf they've become, lining up with the (D)s now to hate on The Orange One.
