That fat brown beetle thudding into your window screen and pinballing around the porch light right now is a June bug, and it's one of the most harmless things in your whole yard.

It can't bite you or sting you. If it lands on your arm and hangs on, the worst it does is grip with little spiny feet that feel scratchy. There's no real threat, it's just a genuinely terrible pilot.

People sometimes mistake it for a Japanese beetle and reach for the spray. Here's the easy tell: the Japanese beetle is the small metallic-green one chewing your roses to lace in broad daylight. The June bug is the bigger brown one bonking around in the dark. One's an invasive pest. The other is dinner for half your backyard.

Because that's what a June bug really is: food. The fat white grubs under your lawn are protein for skunks, raccoons, possums, moles, crows, and a long list of songbirds that dig them up all summer. The bumbling adults get picked off by owls, bats, and whatever else hunts the night.

The people said: HELL NO. Thousands poured into the streets under “Albania Is Not For Sale.” Protests turned fiery. They stormed government buildings and burnt down the Prime Minister’s house. This isn’t just about a deal. It’s about sovereignty. It’s about refusing to let your country be auctioned off to foreign billionaires while locals lose access to their own coastline. When elites sell the nation’s future for kickbacks and luxury resorts, the people have every right to push back hard. Respect to the Albanians for refusing to be colonized by cash. Other countries should be taking notes.
