That is, he hated Sirius... but he wouldn't let an innocent person suffer... nor was Sirius militarily important to Severus...
Simply put, it's not just about old grudges... it's a complex series of events and feelings... so reducing it to a past of bullying is a bad idea...
...
There is a lot of information in the books
In Voldemort's system, the Death Eaters don't all know each other... There are very secret Death Eaters... It's like a system of separate cells...
Snape being part of Voldemort’s inner circle was what made his treatment of Sirius so hard to overlook. He had spent years around Voldemort and the Death Eaters, and he had known how dangerous their world was. Yet when Snape found Sirius in the Shrieking Shack, he did not care to hear his side. He wanted Sirius handed over to the Dementors, despite Sirius having already spent twelve years in Azkaban for a crime he had never committed. Their hatred went back to Hogwarts, when Sirius and James had repeatedly humiliated Snape, and Snape never seemed to let any of it go.
Then Peter Pettigrew was right there, alive and exposed as the person who had actually betrayed James and Lily. Sirius had been telling the truth all along. Snape still wanted him taken away. Being capable of risking his life against Voldemort did not erase the personal grudges he carried. In that moment, the man standing in front of him was not the innocent person who had spent twelve years in Azkaban; to Snape, he was still the boy from Hogwarts he had hated for years. And he was willing to let Sirius suffer the Dementor’s Kiss over a feud that had started when they were children.
Even after Sirius was acquitted, he treated Severus badly and never regretted it...
However, when Harry told Severus that Padfoot was missing, Severus did not ignore the matter... he rushed to inform the Order of the Phoenix and searched for Sirius himself...
It seems logical... but Sirius tried to kill Severus, Even after he left Azkaban, he was mean to Severus... Also, Sirius hates Severus even more than James hates Severus
Sirius did not sympathize with Severus's repentance
A victim cannot be made to sympathize with their tormentor
something about Snape and Sirius gets darker the more you think about it. Snape knew Sirius from school, knew the Marauders, and knew Sirius had been on the opposite side of Voldemort’s war. so when he reported Sirius being in the castle, he wasn’t exactly acting like someone who cared about whether Sirius deserved what happened to him.
the Dementor’s Kiss wasn’t a normal punishment either. it would leave Sirius alive but without his soul, which is arguably one of the most horrifying fates in the entire series. Snape was furious at Sirius and never truly let go of their childhood rivalry, even decades later.
and that’s what makes Snape such a complicated character. he could risk his life for years to protect Harry because of Lily, but that doesn’t erase the fact that he was capable of showing very little compassion toward someone he hated. redemption doesn’t mean every choice he made was morally justified. #harrypotter
Dumbledore was exploiting his weakness to recruit him as a spy... But he needs to think logically, or he's a bad character... Try living a life like Severus's and see what becomes of you...
There has been abuse of personalities under the pretext that "they should have thought of that, not this" He was bullied by Lily's husband and Lily was on the verge of death he knew nothing about Lily and James's lives, he wanted to save Lily because she was the light of his life
Horrible realization about Severus Snape:
I used to believe his love for Lily was completely pure and selfless, and that everything he did as a double agent somehow outweighed the evil he had done as a Death Eater.
But rereading the series changed how I see it.
Snape asking Voldemort to spare Lily was actually incredibly selfish. If he genuinely understood and loved Lily, wouldn't he have known that she would never want to be spared while her infant son was killed, her husband was murdered, and her entire family was destroyed?
Did Snape really think Lily would simply stand aside and let Voldemort kill Harry?
And yes, people argue that Snape couldn't have asked Voldemort to spare all three. That's true. But that's also what makes his request so disturbing. He was asking for Lily to survive something she would never willingly accept.
If Voldemort had fulfilled that request and forced Lily to step aside, she could have been left alive to watch Harry die. Or she could have been Stunned, only to wake up and discover her husband and son were dead and her home destroyed.
Snape never seemed to consider what Lily's life would actually look like after that.
She would have been alive, but traumatized by the loss of her husband and child. And Snape played a role in bringing that situation about.
That's why his plea makes me question whether Snape truly understood Lily's love for her family, or whether he was too blinded by his own feelings to consider what she would actually want.
I still see Snape as a deeply complex character with regret, pain, and a respectable redemption arc.
But I don't see his love for Lily as completely pure anymore.
There was something possessive about it. An inability to accept the choices she made, especially choosing James and building a family with him.
His plea to Voldemort feels less like respecting Lily's wishes and more like preserving the person he loved for himself.
@fawnhjp If the haters had experienced even a fraction of what Severus went through, they would be in a hopeless situation... but they cling to the idea that Severus must be an angel because they refuse to accept that their favorite characters are worse than him...
@fawnhjp The problem with haters isn't that Severus is bad or depressing... Their problem is that Severus was a victim of many personalities and that he never forgave or took on the persona of an angel... It was as if he had no feelings or sadness...
@ScarletPrincex But when it comes to Harry, Ron, Sirius, or Remus... they demand that the most beautiful people in the world be placed to them... At the same time, they demand that Severus be the ugliest person... disgusting bias
@ScarletPrincex What bothers me is that they reject Alan Rickman because he's not ugly enough... The problem is, Severus wasn't praised for being ugly... He was described as having a hooked nose and a gloomy face... But they don't differentiate between ugliness and neglect...
@ScarletPrincex J.K. Rowling and her team oversaw the work... and J.K. Rowling is certainly responsible for important dialogues and events, and also for how the characters appear... but they believe that Alan Rickman came in, changed the script, and left without anyone's approval...
But I don't know why we have to accept that they have the best actors and roles while we hate that Severus has a good actor and only want a dirty actor for him
And also, Severus in the films had a depressed expression and oily hair... Why do you insist on bringing in ugly actors?
This is correct... but if we look at the other characters in the books, they all have bad qualities.
Sirius was trying to kill Severus and was persuading Harry to learn dangerous spells and he hated it when Harry was polite
And many like him... Hermani... Molly... James... Harry
I don’t think Alan Rickman’s portrayal of Snape was anything close to the books.
He was too charismatic, too mature, and too composed to accurately represent book Snape. Rickman himself described Snape as calm, rarely shouting, and incredibly posh, which is almost the opposite of the Snape we get in the books: immature, unfair, easily loses his temper, bullies students, and shouts frequently.
I think the movies had a bias toward portraying Snape as more heroic than he actually was. Alan Rickman’s performance was spectacular, but it created such a strong image of Snape that even people who read the books sometimes struggle to separate movie Snape from the character Rowling actually wrote.
It’s probably one of the biggest reasons Snape gets misunderstood as simply “misunderstood.”
@CaptainFFiction Although I'm not a fan of ships in general... but Severus and Hermani are the worst thing I've ever seen... Imagine you are someone who doesn't like your students... then someone comes along and says you love your student who burned you and stole components from you
@Kieran10x Although it's just an unconfirmed theory... I honestly liked it... I love this kind of theory, especially one that doesn't change the course of the story or tamper with it🪷🪷🪷
@minnielioncourt Although dreams during sleep are unrelated to the topic... I once dreamt that I was watching a broadcast by Alan Rickman and he was saying that he would choose a winner to be his friend or something like that... and I was chosen... Since that dream, I have been happy 🧪🧪🧪
@D3arestNebula I feel she looks amazing on Severus... In my imagination, he doesn't seem ugly on her... rather, he looks unique...
I usually feel that the clothing of that era was somewhere between ancient times and the 20th century... and I don't mean flashy dresses and elegant black suits
