Due to a very short agenda at planning tonight I have just watched the first episode of the new BBC great expectations. It was brilliant, dark and cruel and full of anticipation like the title! @GreatExpect

Today in 1860, #CharlesDickens published the 1st 2 chapters of his novel #GreatExpectations in his magazine #AlltheYearRound. "My father's family name being Pirrip, and my Christian name Philip, my infant tongue could make of both names nothing longer or more explicit than Pip."

@BealABC Its interesting that Dickens chose to give less dead brothers and sisters to Pip than were in the graveyard he based it on. Sometimes fiction needs to reduce facts to be believable :-)

@Choisse_8_nous @BeaBonobo @JamesCDinsmore @tiltedwiguk @MalvernTheatres Not sure Orlick is pivotal. Probably not. Dickens left him out of his Public Reading Version.

Rather I think he's an "in parallel" character that breaks into the narrative rather like "what you didn't expect".

I need think about it more to be sure.
