Contemporary Christian Music in our services doesn’t just weaken true worship, it replaces it. At the same time, it promotes a style rooted in the very spirit we are called to separate from. When that same music is then highlighted and celebrated on social media, it exposes a contradiction between what is professed and what is practiced.
Disappointed by Truth: A Spiritual IFB Diagnosis
It is worth asking why clearly biblical truth so often produces emotional reactions in people who claim to love the Bible. Scripture does not wound the innocent; it exposes the conflicted. When God’s Word is spoken plainly, without apology or softening, it forces every listener to make an internal comparison between what they profess and what they practice. That moment of comparison is rarely comfortable. Rather than dealing honestly with conviction, many redirect that discomfort toward the messenger and label truth as hurtful, divisive, or disappointing.
What is especially revealing is that disappointment is seldom about what was said, but about what was expected. Clear stands remove the safety of silence and the shelter of neutrality. They quietly call for alignment, obedience, and cost. When truth is spoken without ambiguity, it leaves no room for private agreement and public retreat. That is why biblical clarity feels threatening to our IFB culture. It prefers peace without repentance and unity without obedience.
Here are some sound truths on why my post caused such disappointment among many in the IFB!
1. Truth Exposes What Comfort Conceals
“For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.” John 3:20
Clear biblical truth doesn’t create guilt, it reveals it. When Scripture draws clean lines, it forces people to compare beliefs with behavior. That comparison is uncomfortable for anyone living in unresolved compromise.
Disappointment often says, “I hoped you would soften this so I wouldn’t have to deal with it.”
2. Conviction Is Often Misinterpreted as Offense
“Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?” Galatians 4:16
Many believers were taught to equate love with affirmation. When truth confronts, the conscience reacts and instead of calling it conviction, it gets labeled:
•“harsh”
•“unloving”
•“divisive”
But Scripture never apologizes for truth that corrects. The offense isn’t the message, it’s the mirror.
An Exhortation to Young Believers
Let me speak plainly for a moment, especially to young believers.
One of the most concerning things I see today is how easily strong conviction is being labeled as immaturity and narcissistic. I hear phrases like, “One day you’ll understand,” or “You’ll grow out of that,” said to young Christians who simply want to obey the Bible as it is written.
That kind of talk does not produce spiritual growth, it produces hesitation, fear, and silence.
Young people, hear me clearly:
If your desire is to obey God, to stand on His Word, and to live with conviction, you are not wrong. You are not naïve. You are not being extreme. You are responding the way God calls every believer to respond.
Do not let anyone shame you for taking Scripture seriously.
The Bible never teaches that conviction fades with maturity. It teaches that conviction deepens. Paul didn’t tell Timothy to calm down or soften his stand, he told him to “hold fast the form of sound words” and to “endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.”
Strong conviction is not pride.
Bold obedience is not arrogance.
Standing firm is not a lack of love.
What you need in your life is not voices telling you to relax your standards, but spiritual leadership that encourages you to obey God without apology. A pastor who isn’t embarrassed by the Bible. A leader who won’t ask you to quiet your convictions for the sake of comfort or acceptance.
There will always be people who try to intimidate you into silence by calling your faith “too much.” Don’t believe them. The early church wasn’t built by timid believers. It was built by men and women who feared God more than man.
If your heart is to please God, stay there. If your conscience is guided by Scripture, keep following it.
And if standing for truth makes you uncomfortable at times, that’s often a sign you’re exactly where you should be.
Hold your ground.
Stand on the Word.
And don’t apologize for obeying God.
As I read the history of our early church forefathers, I can’t help but wonder what kind of stories would be written about our churches today. History stands in judgement. https://t.co/yWtc9VTJkK
The experiment of cultural accommodation has produced nothing for the cause of Christ. Independent Baptist preachers, it is time for you to set aside your personal fashion statements, wash your faces, get back to the King James Bible, and return to rightly dividing the Word of truth. It may be time to dust off that soulwinning New Testament, invest again in a vans and buses, and stop canceling church every time the weather becomes inconvenient. This may fit the modern, woke-leaning IFB mindset, but acting sincere does not redefine Scripture. Your way is not the Bible way, and the Bible way has never failed.

WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE GIVEN JESUS?
Matthew 2:10-12 text 11
The wise men brought gifts to Christ at His birth. If Jesus walked into your home this Christmas, what gifts would He get from you?
THE UNISEX TRAP THAT IS STEALING YOUR YOUTH
The unisex movement has steadily blurred the God given distinctions between the sexes in almost every part of daily life. Things that once would have shocked people are now treated as normal. From shared bathrooms to clothing that looks the same for both men and women, our culture has drifted far away from the clear and healthy differences God designed.
What is wild is how quietly all of this slipped in. It did not begin with new laws. It started with fashion, trends, and the push for certain looks to become popular. The devil has always understood the power of appearance. He knows that if he can change how people dress and present themselves, he can eventually change how they think about themselves. Fashion has always been one of his sneakiest tools.
Clothing for men and women slowly started looking more alike. Designers pushed styles that removed the clear difference between the sexes. Celebrities and internet personalities promoted looks that were meant to blur the lines. Social media made it spread even faster. Young people, wanting acceptance and wanting to fit in, jumped into the trend before ever thinking about the message behind it.
The devil then tied all of this to popularity and social approval. If you dressed in a way that erased the differences between men and women, you were considered cool or more open minded. If you questioned it, you were mocked as old fashioned. With that pressure, culture sprinted toward confusion.
The sad part is how quickly many Christian young people accepted these trends without stopping to think. What started as harmless clothing choices soon became a lifestyle. They play around in these trends, follow these looks, and act as if removing the God given differences between men and women is no big deal. Even many youth pastors and ministry leaders do not even realize they are taking part in something designed to erase the identity God gave them.
Yet the Bible shows clearly that God created men and women with purpose and design. Society is strongest when men embrace manhood and women embrace womanhood. These differences were never meant to put one above the other. They were meant to provide balance, strength, and order. When men stand in their God given role, homes grow stable. When women walk in their God given role, families flourish. When both accept their identity with confidence, children find clarity instead of confusion.
This modern push to make everyone the same has not created freedom. It has created uncertainty. It has not produced strength. It has produced weakness. And now, instead of leading the world, many Christian young people simply copy it without noticing what is happening.
The answer is not complicated. We return to what God designed and trust that His plan is always good. We stand with confidence on Scripture. We live differently from the culture, even when it costs us. We teach the next generation that identity is not a trend and not something to be decided by fashion. It is created by God and meant to be lived with courage.
The world may keep erasing the lines that God drew. But God has made them clear. And every time His people choose His design over the devil’s confusion, they bring strength and stability back into a very unstable world.
What a great day yesterday! We had visitors, uplifting music, and most importantly, souls saved! I love watching how God blesses our church family. One highlight was seeing our new @GreatPlainsBC student, Ricardo from Texas, help my wife translate the Gospel into Spanish so that a dear lady could trust Christ as her Saviour! On Saturday visits we also found new bus riders who had just moved here from FBC Hammond, IN. God is good, truly a great weekend!
“The god of school sports rules the carnal Christian! How many church services do you think God will excuse while you bow at the altar of participation trophies?”
~Pastor Bill Reeves
Grateful for the opportunity to join over 50 pastors and leaders today with Dr. Ray Young as we discussed how to launch more bus conferences and give away more buses across America. The bus ministry’s finest hours are still ahead. @PastoReeves@WBCBowie
