On Friday, @KUBaseball won an outright Big 12 title on an amazing & memorable night in Provo, Utah.
ICYMI, here’s my attempt at putting the Jayhawks’ conference crown that was decades in the making in proper context, both now & in the historical sense…

I have a controversial take that I prob shouldn’t be sharing but will — I like John’s live versions of Althea better than the OGs.
It’s the only dead song I feel this way about but I just think his voice fits the tone of the song so well and John shreds the guitar on it
This is a column I guess I'll only write once.
My favorite Final Four memories, on the occasion of my impending retirement following nearly 26 years as Senior Writer at @sportingnews.
(I'll still be around some, just not all the time 😉)

Gary Woodland… No words.
Tackled adversity head-on. Never wavered in staying true to his values.
And a champion once again.
An all-time great Jayhawk and Kansas.

Mike Finnigan’s organ playing on Hendrix’s Still Raining Still Dreaming/Rainy Day Dream Away sounds to these ears like one of the finest guest appearances on any record.
Nobody does it better than the great Kevin Harlan. He’s set the bar for all Jayhawks coming out of the @KUJournalism School and quite frankly, for announcers everywhere. Congrats on nearly 30 years of being one of the signature Voices of March Madness. Rock Chalk!
My rendezvous' so long overdue
With all of the things I've sung and I've read
They still apply to me
They all make sense in time
But now I'm incommunicado
Drivin' by myself down the road with a hole in it
Songs with no vibrato
Takin' the long way home
An incredible honor for an incredible person. 💙

A year ago I sent Jason Isbell my then freshly-recorded version of his song ‘Traveling Alone’. In all honesty, we didn’t really know one another very well, I had opened a handful of shows for him over the last few years and notionally I knew we were friendly, mostly exchanging fun internet jabs about vintage guitars and the like. His manager Traci is to be credited - she generously forwarded my cover of ‘Traveling Alone’ to Jason and the rest is now history. He offered to produce my new album, which is coming out this fall, enlisting Gena Johnson as co-producer. We’ll talk about all that later…
The song ‘Traveling Alone’ makes perfect sense to anyone who has ever spent a lifetime on the road. You pass through places where people are living their lives, going to work, getting the kids from school, appointments, groceries… people who always end up at home at the end of the day. A fleeting fantasy for those of us who chose this life of being constantly on the move and waking up in unfamiliar places. “Ybor City on a Friday night” was the line that sealed the deal, a reference to this new “home” of mine here in Florida. And yes, I love the key lime pie at the Columbia restaurant in Ybor.
When we announced the ‘Covers’ album earlier this year I had hoped ‘Traveling Alone’ would be the first song released. I thought it was the best track from this project and I’m thrilled and humbled by Jason’s willingness to sing on it. The fact that it set into motion a whole other album and collaboration was a wonderful surprise. I can’t wait to share more about that soon, but in the meantime…
My ‘Covers’ project is now entirely available on all your favorite streaming services. All eight songs are now online, including today’s release of ‘Feeling Yourself Disintegrate’ by the Flaming Lips and ‘The Logical Song’ (YES I DID cover ‘The Logical Song’ BECAUSE IT’S BRILLIANT…. someone please tell Roger Hodgson I love him!). You can also buy the vinyl and (soon the CD) through my USA store and Canada store (https://t.co/TZAj2Rqa2c), which is still the single most direct way you can support me and this lovely project that
I’m really proud of. Thanks, everyone.
